They can't really go all that wrong with adding new defense mechanics, and by that I mean mechanics that simply don't work or feel like a waste of time, since they are mostly passive and add very little gameplay changes. Raiding mechanics on the other hand are much more complex and must need an amazing amount of planning, testing, braking and then re-planning.
The defense is a set 'weight', a set goal that people can reach for, there is very little variable in defending. Raiding is much more flexible and active and thus harder to define as it mostly depends on how far the attacker is willing to go. MM just needs to find the right combination of new things to get the right balance on risk and reward for both the attacker and the defender.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Yeah, you can keep your expedition character, just have to pray on a statue once a week for a few months

nosfirebird wrote:also popham was a bust it was a ok theory but once again it wasnt balanced. the ark was a joke forcing people to put thousands of hours into building an ark while a single witch has to go to statues(i wont go further into this because i dont know exactly what the witch has to do to get to tier 3 but it cant take thousands of hours).
now that i think of it the overall issue is the devs dont know how to balance their own game.

There was nothing unbalanced on popham at all. The ark was easy to get if people were actively working on it instead of crying on here. The climb into T2 witch is a massive pain in the ass alone that I don't even want to go into it because I just get mad. I imagine T3 is what darwoth is doing right now eating people to reach his goal.

And working mostly on the expedition. Perhaps all the PvP guys might want to actually play the next expedition :D

I was under the impression that he was going to change raiding on provi as well since it's so bad that no one wants to do it.

Wrong impression it must be then, the quoted reply from jc clearly states "providence is balanced"

If you could quote that recently it would be great. Last I talked to him he wanted to change how everything works with raiding while keeping defenders with a advantage. He knows how boring and how long it takes to raid something.

The current plan is for several things to change, hopefully making it more fun for everyone involved. Also making it easier to adjust in difficulty so that we can keep the difficulty fairly high on Providence and much easier on the expedition.

This was 2 weeks ago.

I think raiding in Popham is proving to be very balanced and if you are holding your breathe for a friendly and balanced raiding environment on Providence I would suggest not to do so. The more we get into it the more we really don't feel like competitive and balanced raiding need exist on providence at all I.E. having providence in a bubble where players need not check it that often because the loss of a base is not frequent or reasonably quick.

Has there been a case of an offensive (i.e., used by attackers) mortar being built yet? Just curious. I hear most of the pvp is never reported on the forums.

I dunno if he changed his mind or not but he made a post saying specifically that he was going to change how things work to be much more fun and not mind numbing boring.
