Oil Lantern

Glass + iron + oil.

Burns longer than a torch, can be refilled during use like a torch. Can hang for ambient lighting. Can be set down and remain lit.

Maybe pane of glass, bar of wrought (or maybe copper?), rope (for the wick?), leather (for the handle?)

Sounds great though, reminds me of the lantern in The Long Dark, more expensive to use than a normal torch but pretty handy for carrying around and putting down to do some work in a small area... Though why would you need to put it down if it could be held in your left hand? Maybe it can only be held in your right hand?

There are times I need my other hand, and it would be nice to keep the fire burning.

Plus being able to hang it for ambient lighting, or just decor.

Yeah, if it burned for a long time when full I could see that being pretty cool esp if you could light things with it or at least light torches off of it. I really wish the miner's hat could light torches.

This sounds a lot like the Eternal Flame which is already in game.

Similar, but it's not eternal. It's refillable and more portable. An equipable jack o lantern of sorts.

Torches did evolve into lanterns after all.

Perhaps they could add a chance to be burned by torches and less likely with the lantern. Could also make a logged off character get burned if their house or bed is lit by arson?

Would give incentive for players to protect their beds :).
