Stick some crabs inside a fireplace and they will cook up into a lovely 15/15/15/15 restore food. Berries on a straw is good while you are on the move. And buddies on a branch is great if you get lots of Mudsnappers and Perch. If you have tame Turkeys then sometimes when cut up a cooked bird you will get a turkey neck, this can be dried on a rack to give a fantastic Phlegm and Black bile restore food.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Turkey neck is a nice bonus, but IMO trailmix is by far the best restore food until you get quite far into the game. I'm guessing that's why you need acorns, but just go exploring for an hour and collect all the chestnuts you can find, stop by a marshland biome and get all the cranberries and acorns you need in a matter of minutes, and then spruce trees for pine nuts are all over the place. It's a little annoying to fetch all the things but you can make a huge batch of 40+ of them and then be covered for days/weeks depending on how intensive your humor usage is. 40 trailmix is 9*20*40=7200 points to each humor... So if you have 100 humors that fills you up full 72 times. Plus they weigh very little and store very efficiently with their very high number of uses per object.

If you do decide to try to set yourself up to grow the ingredients for trialmix, a long term benefit to that is it's not a far jump to adventurer's trailmix once you can afford a distiller although you might end up wanting to use walnuts for other things.
