Barn Improvement

Postby DeepSixed » Tue Feb 09, 2016 3:19 am

Heya I've checked out the Barn in Providence; alas there is just something missing.

The picture says it all- where is the Hay Loft?!

Any chance you have some version of barn with a second level with built in feed storage: hay and grains, etc.?

Interesting. I do like this idea. Unfortunately, it is a bit of a hassle to update the barns given that many have been built on providence. It becomes like the Windmill situation and torching the inside of peoples barns isn't exactly a nice thing to do simply because I want to change the layout. Definitely a "patch warning" item to be sure.

Maybe just a build-able storage area within the barn, like some sort of rough looking large cupboard that holds hay or grain exclusively and then use the decay mechanic like those for the cupboards and wardrobes to decay them if they are moved outside of a barn.

If it's something that'd cause you hassle, perhaps change the basic way it all works so at least later buildings will be kind of updateable. And i mean, code future structures in a way that allows adding modules to a building, separate instance modules at least, without having to nuke the old thing.

Or make it behave like the cavedowns in mines currently: elements that spawn and come with their own microworld.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

I could certainly see something like the cave system working - place a ladder somewhere in the barn and then you get the option to store hay 'in the loft'. You would not even really need to have an actual space as it would only be for one resource. Just need to make sure there is a chance for the hay to be spoiled from mice ^.^
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
