Deep water next to the shore

Postby VagabondX » Thu Nov 22, 2012 1:36 pm

I didn't find anything related to this, and was wondering whether this is natural and intentional, or just an unintended sideeffect (aka. bug) in terrain generation:

I am building my first home close to the shore, and spend a lot of time in that area. I noticed that for some reason there is a thin strip between the shore and the shallow water where the water is deep, and you need swimming to cross it. There are some places where you can cross it, but it seems that most of the area is like that.

I've made a few shots, hopefully I can include the links here. For the right mood, I advise you to listen to this song while you take a look: Nobody Canna Cross It

Should I report this?

Well, you just did. As far as unusual, it is random terrain generation. I've seen quite a bit of it and it does occur naturally. What, exactly, is the issue with it being in the game? It doesn't interfere with gameplay in any way that I can tell.

There are three issues with this
1: It prevents you from leaving the shore (you can't climb down because of the deep water, that is not even visible) It's not a big issue, because you can go around, but annoying.
2: With swimming turned on, you can be knocked out if you are low on phlegm. This can be serious, but probably don't happen that often.
3: There are places (last screenshot) where there is no visible water at all, and it says that you have to swim to be able to cross it.. and this one is a bug, I think.

By reporting I meant the bugtracker..

Ah, I see what you're saying. I think points 1 and 3 are the important ones, but devs might have some opinion. Point 2 is just a word of caution about swimming, anyway. I can see it being a problem if you climbed down a cliff and started "swimming" without realizing you're going to be in deep water.
