No he just had a kid last summer. I bet he's wasting it all on cribs and bibs.

Shut up Claeyt, nobody told you to speak.

But anyway, Im honestly interested in how this turns out, i dont much care for the game, even though it sucks to watch an indie game fall that way, im more interested in the legal side of that mess.

I don't think he took the money and ran, so to speak... Just handled it irresponsibly, bit off way more than he could chew, and got burned out hardcore on it. I think he put in more than enough manhours of work for the money he got but kept changing directions and redoing art and redoing architecture, he did have things to show for it but they were very far from his vision. Sandbox mmos are incredibly hard, and his vision was about as sandboxy as it gets. I ended up throwing him $25 as a donation but I don't feel scammed, I knew I was taking a risk on a shaky project but I just wanted to give it a little bit better of a chance and him a little more encouragement. I've certainly had my own share of exciting game ideas that far outstretched my ability to sit down and grind through it.

Meh. Luckly (or not, depends) i live in Italy, so i can't properly use kickstarter or any other outland crowfunding. (Law dumbs. Taxes would strike harder than any "gain" from a crowfunding)

BUT
Even so
I'm having not a few troubles with the publishing of my videogame. Sigh. Laws, stuff, troubles and sleeping burocracy. That's depressing me a lot.

Anyway, if someone out there wish to craft a game:
All i can suggest is to find a trustworthy man and give him the role of send emails. A team mate that don't ask for money, just like you don't ask it for yourself. He have to send emails aaaaall the time to aaaaall the magazine outside there.
That's the most important thing. Everything else is, somewhat, fixable.
No money? Ok, less features and less staff.
No big staff? Ok, smaller game.

If you have your name in the whole web, your game will give you something back. This will grant you the chance to create a new game and maybe pay some dude, this time.
Surely is not a huge jump and is not the best way to reach the top quickly, but before ask for help and sign a contract, is better to have some real experience in developing videogames and publishing it.
Mostly to have the money to pay a lawyer... XD

sadly, this seems the gist of it. Luckily I never got beyond silly web games before I encountered salem, after which my productivity plummeted.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

I don't expect him to come back at this point, seems he's quite done for good now but at the same time I didn't see anything to indicate he had ill intent... Which is very unlike this story. It was still cool to see his ideas develop, gave me some inspiration for my own projects.

I am confused now, who am I supposed to feel bad for, and who should burn in the fires of righteous retribution?
