What about a stall cooldown? IE: You pay a cost to rent the stall for 1-2 weeks, and then you cannot rent another stall for that time PLUS 1-2 days, giving other players 1-2 days to claim said stall for themselves for 1-2weeks. Any unsold items can be reclaimed from the postmaster. This way it better ensures the stalls are cycled out among many players rather than just a few very rich players that can afford to hold the stalls indefinitely.

Read JC said he increased the rent.

I reserve the right to manipulate an empty stall at any given time.

You do not have to be rich to own a stall. You just have to get one. Do you have Mercantilism yet? It took me a long time to find an empty stall I checked frequently during play sessions to see if one was abandoned. I also looked on the forums for someone selling one. I do not like the idea of losing my stall for 1-2 days to have some other idiot come along and slap frogs or hay into the stall. People who maintain their rent reserve the right to do with their stall as they want in my opinion. Even if that is to sell the skull of a player named Momento Mori, 7 use inspirationals with 1 use left, honest trades, or just keep the slots blank. Perhaps next time you go to pay rent or your mortgage we kick you out of your house for 1-2 days for some homeless family to live in your home. Does that make sense at all? Besides the stall can hold more items than the post master would be able to give back to a person. And the current system only offers you the chance to purge all items from a stall not retrieve them. I say the system if fine how it is. If you want a stall save up some money and buy it from someone or look for one to open up.

This is ***** ridiculous from JC, who ultimately had a full 100% monopoly on the stalls on Plymouth, he (they) did and now he's basicly ***** people over that barely have multiple stalls in an environment with alot more stalls.

My stall is empty, I paid the down payment for it and if I can pay the rent, it should be most certainly untouched, sounds like an awful lot like a fine to me. If I add some ****** items for a net worth of whatever it is where you draw the line, it sudently will be okay.

Once again, not a proper fix or balance.

You very much seem to not understand how rent works. His majesty certainly reserves the right to raise rent when it will benefit the people and to think that 'rent' on an asset would remain the same for eternity is just foolish.

Rent has now been increased to 2,000/week on stalls who still refuse to sell anything.

I reserve the right to torch stalls and replace them if they fail to comply with active trading.

So, what would be a proper fix or balance? You say you have a stall, but you keep it empty, why? It's easy to complain about things, but not so easy to come up with a good solution. How about giving us a reason why you keep your stall empty of goods instead of using it? What's the point of paying for something you aren't getting any benefit out of?

I much prefer the idea of reputable traders buying and selling on the Trade threads, and we have so many mechanics more in need of balancing and so many new ideas to develop, we don't have a lot of time to think about stalls. But we certainly can talk about it here if anyone can think of something good.

Right now, what are the issues? We have tried to make it difficult for someone to form a monopoly of stalls by adding the hefty price tag, the one/character requirement, and the skill that you have to put at least a little effort in to get, but Salem doesn't put a restriction on accounts or characters, so one person could still own everything if they really really wanted to. So, if we assume that isn't something we want, what can we do instead of or in addition to what we are doing to discourage people having multiple stalls, or to encourage them to want only one? That's the first issue.

The second is that people who have stalls hang on to them forever, even if they aren't using them, even of they don't plan to use them any time soon. So, how do we, while still discouraging buying all the stalls, make it undesirable for people who aren't using their stalls to drop them?

Finally, no matter how many stalls we have, we won't have enough for everyone and we don't want a 'temp stall' system like you find in some MMOs, so how do we also keep it balanced so that Tradewinds traders remain competitive?

There aren't always stalls available and sometimes I just want to sell items quick and easy, thats what the stall is for. The benefit of selling stuff whenever I feel like, is worth the upkeep. Why would I always have to fill it, its basicly my property just like pclaims and towns are.

TotalyMeow wrote:I much prefer the idea of reputable traders buying and selling on the Trade threads.

Thats alot more profitable, we already are paying rent and 35% taxes. I do like personal trading aswell, but it takes also alot more time on average and the ****** talk about who goes first etc.

You could increase the rent an awfull lot and lower the amount of total stalls, it will lead to a much faster turnover. (Lets say it will be 5000s a week, if you sell for 5000s, you will have no problem, if you don't that rent will be forced out of your stall/bank account) Honestly, there are many things you could do, but simply hitting people out of random is really not my thing.

You guys have created a huge inflation, it only would make sense to increase some prices. That does however not mean to force your will on one person, but not the other. It has to count for everyone, not particular instances.

Its part of being a free market, if the stall owners want to have their stalls empty but pay rent, then that helps them manipulate the market, and should be allowed.

I had to wait months for a stall to open, and scramble for the down payment. If every one is entitled, then give one to everyone. If it's a limited resource, then the 'have nots' just have to wait their turn like we did.

The correct way to manipulate the market would be to increase the price of your item by double in half a dozen stalls and then only by 75% in the stall you want to sell the item. Thus giving the illusion that your price hike is legit.

NO, there is no GOOD reason that I am ok with to have an empty stall. I reserve the right to torch an empty stall. If you want a stall you will make sure to keep some reasonable level of goods in it. Its that simple. Otherwise I will be happier to see it change hands to somebody who uses it.

This doesn't even touch on the fact that they work like a bank/vault for goods if you are taking an extended vacation from the game. Giving you guys the level of 'freedom' you had to use or not use your stall is something that just doesn't work in my mind with a finite amount of marketplace space. If you want a monopoly or empty stalls then do so on the expedition. I have no intention of messing around with those stalls as that server is more volatile and more friendly to these types of things.

Make people have to deposit rent with their pocket money and not have the stall run on funds made that are sitting in the stall. This will make it so people who have sold a lot and then stopped playing will lose their stall.

As for the money sitting in the funds when the stall does close, it could go directly to the stall owners bank account while deducting say, 50% tax to put it in the bank for you.
Although this does not stop all stalls from going out it will weed out the people who don't play anymore.

I have a nice suggestion for stalls aswell.
Depending on the silver made in that one week between rent deposits it will affect the look of the stall and maybe even decrease tax rates a little per stall level.

Stall Levels: (Ignore the specifics of numbers)
Level 0 > Makes 200 silver a week. Must pay 2k rent a week. 50% personal gains.
Level 1 > Makes 500 silver a week. Must pay 1.5k rent a week. 55% personal gains.
Level 2 > Makes 1000 silver a week. Must pay 1k rent a week. 58% personal gains.
Level 3 > Makes 2000 silver a week. Must pay 500 rent a week. 62% personal gains.
And so on.

Now, what if people just power level their stall by buying their own goods? Well, if they want to waste almost half there money just to pay less rent then they can choose to do that. But they will still be wasting more money than they'd like to.
Higher stall levels make the stall look really nice and stand out from other stalls, that means people who sell goods in their stalls and have a good standing level on their stall then they can sell their products for just a tiny bit cheaper and still make the same money from selling those goods. This type of design makes it so the stall owner gets more business
by-
1. Stall with a shown status symbol
2. Generally cheaper prices (Though they are still free to charge standard prices and actually make more money then normal, its up to them)

Hopefully with this system it will push players towards selling goods in their stalls.
