In a linkable world I'm envisioning that they would work with each other as a sled does with a player, but I guess we'll have to wait for after minecarts for such a possibility. Would love to see more nomadic options in general. It's pretty fun hauling around with a sled, a canoe, and two misc objects but very limited too.

That would still be troublesome, for all the rivers and mountains there are...

There's usually a ramp somewhere for ridges, and there's usually a shallow area somewhere for rivers... Or you could just canoe them across. Assuming being capacity of only 4 would make them liftable despite the steel reinforcements, but maybe not.

The point is that it would be a pain, and slow, but you'd have so many sleds full of whatever that dealing with all the annoyances would have to slow you down more than 12x what dragging a single sturdy sled would be for it to be less efficient for huge quantities. It would probably only be 2-3x as slow/annoying overall.

I think JC is right though to say it shouldn't be bothered with until after minecarts, probably the biggest use case would be moving large quantities of things across large bases or between satellite bases which might be accomplished by the minecart system.

Wait, iirc sleds don't go even through shallow water, did I remember that one wrong?

You're right, but unlike carts you can take the stuff off, pick the sled up, drop it on the other side, put the stuff back on. If it's deep water you can do the same while riding in a canoe.
