White screen at startup

Postby Grimothy » Tue Nov 20, 2012 4:12 am

Whenever i go to start up the game all i get is a white screen. I have the most up to date Java and cant figure out why this is happening. I've tried re-installing Java and Salem but i'm still getting the same issue.

Have you checked your video drivers and made sure they're properly updated and installed?

I was helping Grimothy with this issue through remote desktop. We completely uninstalled his video drivers and installed the most up to date without resolving this issue. Furthermore, we removed the application entirely from Java, removed Java from his system, reinstalled Java 7, removed it again and tried Java 6 all without avoiding a white screen upon start up. Searching through older forum posts I made sure he has the right ports on his router open. He did have it running at some point and he could log in (even made a character) but now before getting to the log in it hangs up and the only way to close it is through task manager.

Are we missing any obvious fixes?

This is one of two problems that I'm aware: bad video drivers OR there's some artifact hanging around interfering with normal operation of the client. I had this issue at one point myself and the only way I got rid of it was uninstalling Java and then manually going into my files and deleting everything I could find related to Java. I believe there are utilities floating around the internet that will do this. Same thing for video drivers. Make sure the old ones were completely uninstalled.
