seems the idea of race comes up when different groups clash, specially when one side needs the other to step out of the way... in south/central america entire groups were exterminated during colonization, and lots of new "races" were "born" in the conflicts... it helps justify the violence when you define the other as "essentially" different... now if an alien race show up on earth trying to enslave us, then we can argue that we're all the same in the universe, brothers in carbon, or whatever is we're made of... hopefully they'll already believe that, so we're bros already...
