I must be a retard

Postby nonphixion » Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:05 pm

Hi I can't do anything but walk around in game. Can't talk to npc using right click or whatever.
Can't find the hotkey list either. I'm just so mad i quit the game and i'm not sure it's worth me coming back here to seek an answer and play again.

So how do I talk to NPCS FOR GODS SAKE?

There aren't any real NPCs to talk. Sure, there is postman, and banker. But those are needed only to receive items you bough in shop. This isn't some standard RPG where you talk to NPCs, do quests, shop etc.

It's a sandbox crafting game. Everything (except for the starter city) is player made. Your character learns skills and builds / crafts stuff. Tutorial should explain to you how to learn skills, increase stats and craft. So reread it - maybe you missed something.

As for the beginning of the game - you just wander around gathering some basic materials and try to learn skills. After that you will be building your place. Or you can join some existing village

But it says ''talk to the man with a brown hat''
He almost laughs at me at how I can't talk to him

So you mean the starter area? You haven't even embarrked on a ship?

Well, right click on the guy is enough. This will turn your grey body into something normal. But if right clicking does nothing... then I don't know. There were some problems related with microsoft comfort mouse and / or microsoft sidewinder keyboard. Do you have any of these?

Well, I would guess that this Microsoft software, Intellipoint, or Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre is causing problems (and I assume you have that installed), although I can't find anything on the net about it. I would try, however, to update this software, and if that doesn't help, downgrade to some older version.

And if that doesn't help... well I would try uninstalling it completely. Although I don't know if your mouse wouldn't stop working.

Do you have other java games? Minecraft, towns, wurm maybe? If so, do you have similar issues there?

is your character in clothes? put your clothes before talking to the starting NPCs... read the message on the right side of the screen telling what to do next

The point is that talking to the man in brown hat is supposed to be the first thing to do. There are no requirements for that. You start new character and talk to this guy to get a body

I would suggest finding some of the salem tutorial videos that have cropped up on U-tube to get a feel for how the game plays (at least when starting out). It is a game that is not for everyone (but then neither was A Tale in the Desert) and the publisher is pushing the developers towards more tutorial content as we move through Beta.
