I once went up a madness level studying all charges of 15 singing logs... I think your studying also needs to have variety. In addition the times that I gain madness is when I am doing repetitive tasks for hours on end whether I study or not I gain a level. There may not be an exponential component but it does seem that the things that reduce insanity are limited until you do another form of insanity reduction task.

Does the decay rate on madness when sleeping in a bed follow a non-linear curve? As in, if you're really close to the next level, it may not decay as quickly?

I ask because I made a ton of wrought iron last night for braziers, and was surprised I didn't gain a madness level, but then when I woke up about 6 hours later (my character had been sleeping in a Simple Bed for about 7 hours) and filled my fish traps and gathered a bunch of autumn grass (which I know isn't a flower) for tinder for 4 torches I gained madness level. It was definitely less than 35 minutes. I didn't do anything that causes madness, like finding a gnome or pulling out bee stingers.

Not complaining, because I really thought I was going to get a madness level when making the wrought iron, but I found it strange.

I madness and insanity are two different things. I do not think there is an insanity meter and when you hit a number you get level one. I believe it is probably something more like when your insanity bar fills up you gain a madness level and the insanity is reset. Every time I have cleared my madness level I have been able to screw around a long time before gaining another level.

Also Sleeping in a bed does not reduce insanity at all. That was removed. Sleeping in a bed only removes one level of madness every 8 hours that you have a teddy on you.

Oh, is this wiki out of date on that too, then?

http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Madness ... anic:_Beds
Players will find that their insanity will be lower after sleeping in a bed (this will not lower madness levels, only bring insanity back to the lowest point of your current madness level).

+1 would also like confirmation about the wiki being out of date on that.

You should always assume the wiki is not up to date since it's ran by players.

Correct. I didn't intend to imply shock at the wiki being out of date, most of the articles are year(s) out of date. I just couldn't find mention of beds no longer affecting insanity on the forums. I was under the impression they lowered insanity but not madness, but good to know that's not the case if so. Not seeing any mention of it in the recent patch updates though...
