I suppose it depends how many months, but that's not at all what I was talking about. I said it's possible to become competitive in a matter of months, not make the biggest character on the server. Meaning you can start from nothing and end up with a character of a few hundred humors and a fairly productive base. I'd say anyone like frotted who is a veteran coming back, or any current player who decides they want to go up against someone like Darwoth, can do this easily, which is who I was thinking of when I wrote that.

I had Darwoth in the Finish Him animation once but then he killed me with an orbital strike platform made of hay bales.

I'd post the screenshot but the FBI seized my hard drive a while back.

Wow...I'm a veteran... feel more like a weekend warrior... still I feel all fuzzy inside.

Thanks!

If anyone could- it'd be you.

I don't support a reset... only a new server... to give newer players the illusion they aren't ants... does that make sense?

That is exactly why we have Popham.

But Popham is temporary... it can be destroyed. Forum fodder suggests it's hanging on the say so of a few players... build up there- piss some off- it ends tomorrow.

Who'd bother with it?

Just saying that's my sense of forum posts and such...

Why anyone would give it time of day is a mystery. I'm talking about MAIN toons...that will exist forever... not some toss away toon... (Popham), etc. You want to change perception of the Expedition server... etc..?

Wipe the forums!
vs a server reset... forum reset could do as well.

All of it... no archives or anything else ... let's start over tomorrow... with nothing...

If we did that, you'd be complaining again within a month that the server it too old and that everyone is already ahead of you and godlike and uncatchable.

Except now there would be no fun legacy items to covet and fight over, which is a big reason for raiding.

And that's a problem for who?

Old farts or new players...

It really boils down to player base... if you are happy with what you have... do nothing.

Popham can be out there for 5-10 years... at 1% ) or less ) it'll likely take that long for the Ark to get completed, etc.

Your efforts to date are totally pathetic and not helping at all.

(You did say the Witch gets a Statue... but everyone else gets nothing? That was helpful how? Especially since newbies can't become witches without someone who's been here non stop for year's help... and then since it's Popham... it won't last or transfer over... at which point they will have to do it all over to get Withcraft..ugh... and now I need to puke, etc.)

Beyond the possibility of getting animals into Providence quicker at which point they can be stolen, diseased, die, etc... just as they are on Popham- I have not had ANY inclination to attempt it at all. Based on it's dismal population, the effort the Dev went into creating the code for animals; the greatest likelihood is that his patience will wear out LONG before any Witch actually wins Popham and/or Ark is completed.

Otherwise- he totally wasted all that time and effort for nothing...and I seriously doubt he can sleep on that forever.

So why bother?

I don't care either way... I just offered a simpler, realistic alternative vs resetting server or creating a new one.

Anyone can raid and/or loot the corpse of someone with great legacy stuff and have it for themselves. Even relative newbies, so I guess it's only a problem for people who like to complain but don't want to do.

I can't complain too much. We haven't been able to keep up the update schedule we wanted to and I feel pretty bad about it, but we'll be back at it before long.

No, one way or another, it will end once we're ready to start a new one.

Frotted wrote:Your efforts to date are totally pathetic and not helping at all.

I'm not sure which efforts you're talking about. The more than a solid year of huge monthly updates that brought the population up from about 5 to over 1000? I know it's dropped since, but you can't stop real life. It just can't be helped. The true fans of the game have stuck around patiently and I have to say I consider our efforts an overall success.

Frotted wrote:(You did say the Witch gets a Statue... but everyone else gets nothing? That was helpful how? Especially since newbies can't become witches

Everyone else gets animals, of course. And we never really expected a lot of newbies to play seriously on Popham. Providence has plenty awesome stuff for new players to learn while the expeditions were meant to be something new and exciting for the older players to get in to. Once we work the kinks out with this first one, they should cycle through every 6 months or so. Plenty long enough for new players to get the experience they need to compete but not too long to wait.

Popham isn't for you. You don't have the mettle.
