If you are bored, you need to look to yourself. ..sandbox means do it your damn self.

As far as popham. It does allow for faster progression IF you use the correct statues.

What should have been done is not necessaries a speed up, but a limit to technologies. No walls over stone and maybe not spawning granite for the first month. Make the threat more real...everyone loved the beginning ( probably different reasons) , but for us it was the eminent threat.

Once walls went up though, numbers dropped. ..threat perception diminished and people drifted back to Providence at the thought of rerolling minus purity. ..why REGRIND purity just to have it wiped. For animals? And witches? They weren't out yet, and widely unknown when numbers dropped (perceived numbers dropped).

This COINCIDED with a decrease in Dev events and activity (visible activity) which made those online stay in their bases and less visibility in town.

I enjoy Popham, but I think more would if the expedition became a fat paced higher risk server. It might turn into an alt factory, because death is more rampant. But many more would enjoy it. Some would quit because of too much loss, but they already did. At least the next one would be more active.

I honestly think am object based map with Salem mechanics could be fun as hell. Build an npc base somewhere on the map we all attempt to raid, lot and cart loot of the map. I'm sure too mainstream, but I could imagine scenarios that make for great memories. Pursuing people pulling carts on horseback etc. Still alot of potential on expeditions.

What? No walls.... Ok we had walls up first day in the group I was in. That did not stop us from raiding. First of a cannon pointed directly at a persons pclaim destroys the entire claim.... (Yeah that is not normally told to everyone but I don't care to keep that secret any more.) We raided the majority of the bases around us. When cake took the gluttony statue from my group (Yeah the doughnut claim was ours originally) we had plans to raid their town. And our witches in a are darkness base were 2nd circle already at that point.. The problem was people got board of the server because nothing was really going on. I honestly think my group had the best chance of ending the server but got tired of the drag and realized animals are crap and not worth the time. The moment the ark was introduced my group said screw it and they have not come back to the game since then. That was a loss of 4 players right there. A 3 day break can kill all your turkeys. But a one day break can result in your entire cattle being sick, starving, improperly bread, fighting to the death, or undead.. WTH.. To much effort for some food, some stupid skins, milk, and literately their crap.

I say bring the flood kill off popham give us our characters the ability to inherit based off our statue visits and be done with it. Figure out what to do with animals from there.

Yes walls. ..because you need steel for canons, so a minimum week bottle neck was in place...or you have to get your humors high enough to take down stone walls, which was another time limit. Expeditions are different than providence, I believe people did NOT want to do the same grind elsewhere. .they wanted something ELSE. It seemed to me that my group wanted the conflict and threat. When the walls went up around the town, play time decreased. We had walls over pclaims, but not a large protected work area for a few days.

it seems to be taking longer for witches to get their power then originally thought.... tho i haven't heard plans for the arc... im sure the witches are gathering resources so they will be able to bring their animals back to Prov...... if they want them at all.
and a lot of people stopped playing that server when they learned first hand what a major pain in the ass trying to take care of the animals is.

people are raiding because authority objects have been broken and are pretty much trash now. :'(
but yes, this has driven off many of the top players and destroyed many of the top villages.

the game hasn't really hit a rut..... it has just become some thing that the vast majority of the player base did not want it to become.
while many of the tasks have become not so much of a bore (like walking grate distances and chipping rocks).... and that is good... the madness and sickness (player and animal) has turned the game as a whole in to a chore........ and most people play video games to get AWAY from work.

this game dose have a TON of potential...... and JC doesn't give a damn about player numbers.....
that was one of the things brought up many times in the past trying to get JC to take notice... but he stated he would rather not update the game any more then deviate from the direction he is going with the game....



but yah as an added note the "server status" page is very misguiding.
the load has more to do with processing load values rather then population.
and the player count seems to count logins on each server not IPs.... so 1 person x number of accounts x each account used on each server... i my self count as 6 of these people perday.
the "server status" page also doesn't show time played.... some one could login long enough to check for a waste claim and then log out for the day and still it counts him as an active player.... with that said.... even tho in the last 2 months we have lost a majority of the veteran players we seem to be seeing an influx of new players the last week or so.


still at this point i think the best bet for Salems success is either a separate server completely not related to the current server mechanics so we can take the game down the original path the game was going.....
or at very least a less hardcore server that for examples:
doesn't have sickness and witch craft in town.
and you don't passively gain insanity unless you are in darkness as well as don't gain insanity from killing frogs turkeys or feeding turkeys turkeys and such things.

Is not even fun to talk about populations anymore everyone knows that the current ones are less than the ones had at the old 3 servers but is pointless since that doesnt bother/care to JC. I remember when the diehard fans ****** scream in this forum that low population was due hafen being released. Now that hafen has a steady comunity all the others hundreds of players that quit hafen returned to salem right? Right?? :lol:

Most people are waiting for updates that adjust to their playstyle but i dont see that happening since all the updates tend to be "forevercarebear" or updates that came from suggestions of players that since the start of the game just push for mechanics that give them advantage ingame, never really caring about populations since those are OK playing with 20 other players in a server coz they can brag about how "hard" salum is and how all the people quit coz so HARD!! when in fact the game has been dumbed down really bad with the goal to attract carebears and it has turned up into just plain chores and enduring pain mostly like a torture or a game made for old people that long for depression.

JC said that he is pretty much only playing around with salem as a hobby....
so that is why he doesn't care about the lower population.

please explain how making it so that raiders can destroy a village bell FULL of silver, you get sickness, you get insanity/maddness and the MAIN reason for raiding (purity items) on the old servers were removed so no one has really an actual reason to raid any more... is carebear?

i have been called carebear many times for asking for a server with these things and other things listed.... but i have never seen any one called carebear for wanting these things in the game. O.o



just because raiding isn't as big a thing as it was on the old server doesn't mean the patches are carebear....... there is just no incentive to raid.... unless you're darwoth and want to destroy every one elses progress so they can't challenge you...... even tho there is a 99.99% the persons village you destroyed was not going to do any thing to you....... if you want actual raiding again.... then raiding needs a PURPOSE.

This new villages are potential risk for him. They could for example supply someone who'll try to raid him.

The problems that get raised often in these kinds of threads like "it's a chore to tend to animals, to feed turkeys, to defend my town bell and 50 boundry stones, to deal with madness when I'm digging 10,000kg of dirt a day, Claeyt's 'I cant donut claim TbC Darwoth Island'." These are not problems at all in themselves. This is a problem of a hermit or a town of 5 people who all are online at the same time. All of your problems can be solved if you build yourself a community of 50 players. Is that too hard? Well, welcome to life buddy, cuz most things are hard. Get to it.

What percentage of people do you think play as a hermit?

How many towns of 30 or more people are there?

i rarely play as a hermit... and when i do it is because every one else in the already established village has quit.
no matter how many people are in your village it doesn't change the fact you gain a madness level every 4 hours.

also most the people i know that have gripped about the game becoming a chore are in villages or are a witch main that has played as long or longer then i have....
