tutorial changes

Postby dakenho » Tue Nov 03, 2015 3:11 pm

the tutorial for the game is very nice and helpful for new players but I found it rather, well ,undesirable, the game talks about exploration and discovery then holds your hand and tells you what skills to take and what to do or you can pay money to skip the tutorial? that leaves a bad taste.

so what is the solution? what about a set skills/objectives just for the tutorial? Skill reset when tutor is done? Allow people to skip it with out buying silver? I am not sure of a the right solution but I what I do know is the tutorial has left a negative impact for me.

for a new player who does not have silver, the only way to skip is to buy a pack/silver with real money.

also no, its not a troll post, as I don't hate the tutorial, I just do not like the approach, I just want to explore on my own, why not give the player a choice of three things to do that requires them to choose/explore a skill, rather than just being told what to do?

it is a reference to in game currency usage/buy within the first few seconds after creating a character.

I'm pretty sure no one wastes silver when making a new character unless they are in late game and throw it around. Even with the tutorial its very basic and teaches hardly anything about the game besides the getting started part. As a game with a steep learning curve the tutorial helps in every little way to a new player. This game does not hold your hand whatsoever after the tutorial and as is a result of many many noobs getting killed with fences, no locks on their gates, no defenses, lack of combat understanding, blahblahblah.

You should instead be asking for a better tutorial rather then none at all.

Dying and having to make a new character is very common in this game. We realized that after a dozen run-throughs, many people would get tired of it and we added a silver option to skip. However, we very much don't want newbies skipping the tutorial. Sure, if you buy store silver you can skip it if you really want to, but the tutorial is designed to be short enough that even if you're so hardcore you just want to get right to the main game with little to no help it shouldn't be an issue. And the skills and other things you are asked to do are things you should be doing immediately anyway. You won't get very far without those first couple skills that the tutorial asks you to learn, so there's no reason to confuse people by having them learn some kinda special skills and then taking them away again.

My first log in. ..I walked around for 4 hours and found my first piece of autumn grass (spawned in the side of a hill), took another hour till i found the smooth stone i needed to study. I watched a Dev walk thru to see how to play (actually had to research the game). Spawn rates were different and it was much harder for a newbie.

You should be grateful you get a safe area with an abundance of resources to learn the basics.

TM, perhaps you can clarify this statement. Are you saying that I can pay to skip the tutorial DIRECTLY from my mailbox (where we can suppose I have a silver purchase waiting)? Otherwise, a completely NEW player would not be able to skip the tutorial because they would have no way to take Store Bought Silver and deposit it in the Providence Bank.

If it is the case that silver can be taken directly from the mailbox in order to skip the tutorial, then perhaps that should not be allowed, thus eliminating the possibility for a NEW player to skip the tutorial.
