How do beds work?

Postby ArgentRhapsody » Mon Nov 02, 2015 8:34 am

The wiki is not telling me... when you use a bed, you log out, or do you stay there sleeping?

if someone destroys that bed, will you pop back into the game?

also, what are all these gold things called "The Precious" about? are they cursed?

Bed allows you to instantly log out, where as if you log out/select character normally, it takes some time before you successfully log out of character/account.
An occupied bed with have the covers all the way up, while as unoccupied ones have no covers up. Also better beds inceases the rate of the inspiration you get while sleeping (being offline).

Once the bed is destroyed it is gone...you will not pop online until you choose to do so (rather it tells you the bed is destroyed or not upon trying to log into the said character is unknown to me).

As for "The Precious". It is an insanity item gained when sifting...It turns uncut gems into fragments in your inventory...In overall don't have these on your person.

The bed only lets you log out and acquire inspiration faster while offline than online and iirc lose insanity gains. If your bed is destroyed, you will still be there in that location. I'm not sure if you will continue to have the benefit of the bed until you wake up because that would require an update of your character I think but who knows. Maybe Meow does.

As far as you dying or having your items stolen while offline, someone will need access to your homestead(leanto or claimstone). In this case, they will leave scents of the crime. They can't really kill you unless you have committed crimes. If you have a claimstone, they can't destroy it if it has silver in it.

If all you have is a leanto, and they destroy it, I'm not sure what happens then. Someone else will have to come and answer what happens in this case. Maybe you show up in Providence the next time you login, or you instantly login in Providence and stand idle, or you are still sleeping in that spot. If you stay sleeping in that spot, they may keep the claim(they would claimstone the leanto and destroy it for free) in the area, and you will wake up needing to commit the trespass crime to leave.

From what I noticed.

If someone destroys your leanto and bed the next time you log on you will not be able to log out till you get a homestead again. You will be in providence naked.

If someone destroys your leanto but leaves your bed you will awake in your bed naked.

If someone destroys your bed you arrive at the same spot provided you still have a leanto. With all your stuff intact (provided no one stole from you).

Just the same if someone destroys your bed and places an item in that spot IE builds a kiln. You will be prompted that your location is compromised and you must respawn at your homestead.

So for example if you took over a claim with a town bell you could put a wall around the leanto of the person then destroy their bed and place a stone on that spot. The person will be forced to return to their leanto and because they are not part of the town they would not be able to log out or quick travel resulting in that character being stuck online and unable to destroy the walls meaning free murdered character in 33 hours give or take.

The last is true enough- pretty easy to 'claim' a lean too that's taken by another for little or no extra silver... and kill off who ever spawns there. I only mention it as I've experienced it just recently ~ pathetic mechanic, but works for Salem Veterans. Heaven forbid they have to 'work' for anything at all. They did their time- they need those super 'easy' kills that can never be avoided to feel good about themselves... lmao... most don't have long in this world... let them have their small victories.

If it bothers you... recommend you move on.

ARK looks pretty good ~ http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110

Well, that's kinda harsh. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't see this as a regular occurrence. Maybe you had bad blood with someone, and they knew this was your leanto. Maybe you built your leanto very close to a claim without communication. Maybe you had a tool worth 4k silver and made no effort to protect said tool. Maybe this guy was a *****, and you got unlucky.

Bottom line, no one is going to do something that's not in their interest, and it is clearly in your interest to hurt Salem's reputation.

That is actually a very distinctive statement, ARK is a single player game, or small scale multiplayer, definitely not a mmo. So that's fine, if you don't want to get hurt in an open world, go play a singleplayer game! :P
