Looking for a town to help in

Postby Lugar » Mon Oct 19, 2015 9:39 pm

Hi all.

I'm new to the game, looking to find a town I can join and help out in. I'm more the carebear/support type, but flexible on what I'm going to do. Just want to find a group to learn the game, have fun, and help out!

English speaker if that makes a difference.

PM me if you can use a pair of hands!

Not all villages who are looking for members advertise directly, there are still plenty that pick up people from the forums using PMs. Activity on the forums tends to provide a good start in working out if a player might be suitable to recruit.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

that's cute... or should I take it personal?

Nobody ever reached out to me when I was looking!

Not true actually... someone did reach out; but as I speak English and they German... it was deemed a poor fit... ah well. Just have to start my own town.

Starting ones own town can be a fantastic venture and can lead to amazing friendships and gut wrenching heartache. If you have the time and the tenacity for the job I would certainly recommend starting a village. Just remember to pick people you would trust with your life as trust is the backbone by which every village should be built.

Yeah, Luse is right about that. Your word should be your bond, and your reputation, one of your more valuable things. It's hard if not impossible to rebuild trust after even petty betrayals, and it's surprisingly easy to develop a bad reputation.

Of course, trustworthiness is negotiable with outsiders, and it's really up to your groups policy how you treat them. In my mind you are really only obligated to be a good citizen in your community. If you are a trader it is professional to be trustworthy as a matter of course, but having played this, and a lot of other mean, mean games, that's about as far as it goes. You should approach people with caution that are not in your group, no matter what.

Although another important thing is, don't get too stressed out about stuff. You will get killed at some point if you are doing anything more threatening that hunting bunnies in your town claim, and stand a good chance of being killed out of hand even then when the Big Bad Wolf blows your straw house down and eats you all up. We have a lot of Big Bad Wolves. Enough in fact that it's not really a singular thing, but more "Biggest, Baddest Wolf" is a singular thing.

You do not need to be attacked by the worst of them to get rode in hard, and put up wet. But still, don't sweat it. You will probably get killed, you are also somewhat likely to get mugged, or to lose good stuff because you passed out in the shallows and dropped a bunch of it in the river, or near a wall, you will get to quite high profs and have to spend significant time rebuilding when a stupid critter punks you, etc. Don't sweat it. You can inherit stuff, and with friends, you can rebuild.

(You can without, but it's much easier working together.)
