Terraforming + Biomes

Postby Krystalfoxfire » Mon Oct 19, 2015 1:49 am

In H&H I recall that if you plowed forest terrain, it would eventually turn into grassland, and then again eventually into heath. Does the same mechanic apply to Salem? If I plowed the grasslands, would they turn into badlands terrain?

You're wrong about H&H (at least, about H&H 1).

In Salem, natural terrafroming makes dirt tile the similar to closest natural soil tile.

If you wanted a different biome you would need to make a good chunk of terrain dirt, surround it by pave and then use a musical box from the store, that works too.

How quickly does terrain take over when dirt surrounds it?

I seem to remember plowing having a chance to cause grasslands, pretty sure that was a thing in H&H 1.

Best bet would be to use or get someone to use a musical instrument and then expand it by paving out what you don't want and digging around what you do want.

Also I believe this was possible in hnh but I can't exactly remember how it worked.

Oh I double checked, deforestation caused natural grasslands to form, then plowing and letting grasslands heal had a chance of spawning moor/heath that could then spread through the grassland. The more you know.

Aorlean (sp) has the ability to alter biomes; but even on wiki I haven't seen a list that matches up Instrument with Biome... is it truly random?

Yeah I am interested in knowing more about this music box. The $50 store item is the only thing that changes biomes? Does the item have limited uses?
