Why it says to you "the perpretrator is death" when to me it pointed an arrow towards a dead body?

I've followed the arrow to a dead body not far from providence cemetery. Was he still alive somehow at that time...?

Because you're tracking the body, while he's making an attempt to summon the body. Decay goes slow.
