I got madness level 3 !

It seems that my character will die forever when I get madness level 10 . I tried to smoke for three times and nothing happend ! The Tobacco is so expensive , I almost can't afford it . I also know that the teddybear can be useful for me , but I can't combat with bears . The bearskin is very rarely sold by other players . What can I do ?

I would put together an affluence set and use the hookah den. Sterling Geodes are pretty cheap or you could probably just buy a whole set from someone on the trade forum.

It's still a long way to madness 10, but even lvl 1 means you should not (and effectively can not) do many things, like anything that uses an expensive tool like mining.
Even just picking up flowers might end in you getting KOed.

Your best bet is to make a new character and be more careful with insanity/madness, study once an hour, 5-10 things, small inspirationals are better for this purpose, and you will hardly ever get a single madness lvl.
Latikais custom client has a timers-tool that you can use to help remind you when it's time to do so.

Use that 2nd char untill you got the tobacco/affluence/teddy to remove the madness from your other character.

That's right, just don't ever put a pickaxe into a characters hands that has madness!
(In case you thought of mining/chipping boulders to get some geodes...)

You shoudn't buy a bearskin for that much, I would say 100s is a fair price.

This right here is my problem with the madness system. When you're just starting out it's pretty easy to get at least some madness levels and then it's SUPER hard to get rid of them. You almost have to be part of a town or at least have a buddy who is an established player.

It's just one more barrier to entry in a game that has a STEEP learning curve.

Yeah 100s can be fair price. But remember that we got free economy So if someone need something then it's his problem how much he need to pay. May it be 200s for Bear Skin or 4k for Needle it's his choice. I don't really care if i sell it for 70s to stall or for 1000s to player it's mine and his choice. But in my opinion it's better go forage for few Indian Feathers and Arrows make savage charms then afford that 100s more than make a new char. Salem isn't like any other games. It's hard, ugly and almost everyone is your enemy ^^ And if he don't learn it at start then he will be crying over all small things that will come in later game or next updates.
