Fake Silver

Postby jayt1990 » Thu Sep 24, 2015 6:08 pm

I have something that is concerning to me and wondered if someone could spread some light on it.

I have been trading for a long time now and i've been wondering since the addition of fake silver to the game. Is there anyway to tell if the money people spend in my store is counterfit?

Also if someone does use counterfit money in my stores without my knowledge can i be tracked by the scents they leave?

Hoping the answer is no, trying to put my mind at ease i guess.

the silver coins are no different than any other silver coins, the counterfeiting scent is left when the silver is created from the bar at the location it was made.

What do you mean with counterfit money?

AHHH!
You mean the real silver from silver bars.

It is not fake silver.

if the owner were to give me fake silver, trace his own scent to the item he would find me?

Imagine if someone did debasement and left one silver coin in a ton of containers in town. You would have multiple crimes to track from one scent. I doubt you get the opportunity to track the silver only the perpetrator and the claim. It would be impossible to make a stack of silver split it buying things and then track the silver. However I have not tested this if there is a chance you could not split the entire amount and was forced to spend it all in one spot then I could see tracking the silver as a possibility. But with the way silver works now I don't think the scent/crime mechanics would support tracking silver. 5 coins put separately in 5 different containers in Providence would cause a spinning tracking arrow for the person tracking from their claim most likely.

Debasement only counts when the silver is made. Once it's made, it's real silver as far as anyone knows. No scents, no penalties for getting counterfeit coins, no risk involved to the merchants. Only the counterfeiter takes a risk in that someone can come pick up that scent and use it against him.

Fun Fact:
The mechanic was originally designed for the fake coins to be distinguishable from the real coins. But due to a harsh and toxic combination of laziness and a lack of understanding of the Salem "substance" system (yes money actually behaves more like substances than items) I decided to go for the easy way out. In the future it is definitely on the table that we will revisit this mechanic and add more fun to the whole counterfeiting thing.
