I can't kill beavers

Do some researchs, Your first 30-40 all humors can be gained within your first few hours of gameplay, on nothing more than foraged bugs, berrys and nuts. You shouldnt neeed to be killing animals yet, as for leather you really should be foraging dried snake skins from hollow stumps / logs, It is much easier in the early stages of gameplay.

Just have to wait 1-2 weeks for your next post : "how can i kill a deer".

When you see a deer in the open, pick up some old logs and build a cage with it and maybe some makeshift fence, then guide the deer in (don't attack it yet!), close the opening behind it, and use stomp to kill it through the logs/fence.

The key to hunting deer, even for higher lvl characters (until you can onehit them), is to not get charged (as that breaks your bones and is a nuisance no matter how "high" you are) , deers can and will charge, repeatedly, if there is 1 or more tiles space between you and them, so either stay close and use fast attacks, and/or use obstacles to prevent an open line to them when they are not close.


Now waiting for the "how can i kill a bear" ...

Or dont be a lily-licker and fight the dear how it is intended stomp stab/club. Get in close and float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.

I would not recommend to a newbie to use stomp against a deer in mid combat except you got it approching to you while you are protected by cover (like, a tree or a fence or an old log...), otherwise you are bound to get charged.
Opening with a stomp is ok though, when the deer walks your direction, activate stomp before the deer gets in range so it does not aggro until it is stunned. Again, not the easiest thing to do for a new player.
Just focus on staying close and use fast attacks so the deer wont walk away while execute the attack and then charge you.

Myself can currently kill a deer in Bullrush>Thrust>Thrust>Roundhouse kick, roundhouse cause its fast, no need to be super accurate, and the deer dont get away to do the charge shenanigans.
~130 yellow, also managed to kill my first beer the other day ... I died once in doing so, but for me its an accomplishment still.

Beavers can actually spin and hit you through a wall, just a brief side note.

I'm very weak and I die against beavers. What should I get to defeat Beavers?

Bug hunting - Stomp.

Because beavers always move (to attack) at the same speed, you can easily time a stomp to land as they come into range but well before they actually reach you.
Your connection will influence the apparent distance a bit, but for me -- starting a stomp as the beaver comes within 1.25 character body lengths, it will land and stun the beaver at around 0.25 lengths.

With a bit of practice, you can take the entire beaver 'family' at once using only a 3 or 4 stomps as a fairly new character.

The dance routine they do sometimes prevents timing a stomp - but you can just circle a nearby tree to keep the beaver on the other side until it runs out and goes back to normal attacks.
Remember (as long as you have low humors) to have a couple of tourniquets with you when beaver/deer hunting so you don't win the fight then die to bleed damage.


When you can get ahold of a canoe, Get One. It makes beaver and deer easy and relatively safe for even a Brand New character because they can only reach you if they attack from certain side-angles. If you keep the nose of the canoe pointed at them you can just stomp them down. Obviously you won't have enough yellow early on to take a deer in one go, and will have to paddle far enough out of combat to clear it and eat - regen humors, and go back to finish.

Thanks Eslake. I already managed to kill beavers (and said it here in the thread), they aren't even a threat for me now. Stomp is indeed the main ability I use to kill them, I would have closed this thread if I could, I'm already answered, thank you guys for the tips.
