how long till items despawn after KO?

I was KO'd by a cougar, ran back within 10 mins to where i KO'd, nothing is on the ground..? i thought it didnt despawn that fast.

think its a minute or two, ten definitely won't leave anything

It depends on the item and it is random.

Woodchoppings per example despawn very fast, i have not count it yet, but i guess under a minute.
Other things lay longer, like tools.
And some things needs very long to despawn, like keys.

If you have 10 minutes to run, then some things should be there maybe, maybe not.
Maybe you have not find the right place.
Maybe the tile in which you have lost your items was unloaded, then also all things are gone.
The time when tiles are unloaded from servercache is also not fix, it can happen after 10 Minutes too.
