2/6 of my Timber Piles missing, mysteriously

Are you sure you finished building them entirely? If it was just construction sign it may have decayed.

Yes fully completed

I certainly filled all 6 in with stone first (built into the sign), then the fresh boards (not built in yet), and then built them up one by one consecutively.

However,
Say I didn't finish building into the last 2 even though there were 10 stone built in for sure. Would it still decay, in two days, on my claim?

Your board piles are on the very edge of your claim. It is possible to commit crimes on the edge of a claim and as long as you are not standing ON the claim, you won't leave a scent. Therefore, extend your claim one more square and people won't be able to steal/destroy those piles anymore.

Have you read the forums? Trust me I took time to build 20 piles at one point unclaimed just to make sure that if someone stole they could not take them all. Someone indeed spent the time to destroy them all.
