Starting up Salem

Postby By_Danny » Tue Sep 15, 2015 5:49 am

Salem will not open for me, every time i do, it just closes out. I tried updating java and it still won't work for me. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling salem and the salem ender client but neither of them still work :( I've only been offline for 2 weeks. Could this be another issue? Or am I doing something wrong?

Do you have a little bit more information about your problem?
Which OS do you use?
What is show up in Java Console or Logfiles?

We can't help you if we don't know more specific things about your problem.

Have you tried the default client?
Just checking to make sure, as issues that are common to both default and custom clients are typically due to a bad Java installation as these two clients do not share anything between them: files are stored in another location.

Do you get no crash reports/stack traces? If you fail to start when using ender's, can you post the log file that ends up in ~/Salem?
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Hey Danny,
An error log would be fine like Kandarim ask about.

I'm also using Windows7 and sometime the client will not start. I see the java konsole then nothing.
But look into your Taskmanager, there are maybe left processes of java. Try to terminate them and start the client again.
Wait a little bit... means not clicking again and again on salem start. Sometimes it takes time to start.

For me it look's like lack in memory. If You are using laptop with 2 graphic cards try use another one.
Check in system Your RAM.... and try to reinstall Dx9.0c

that'd cause an actual OOM crash. Java really dislikes memory shortages.
on-topic, there have been other people plagued by the black screen stuck on loading. In those cases it was sometimes caused by a faulty router or (less fun) a faulty ISP. In the latter case, proxies did help IIRC.
