Mining issues

I'm trying to mine, but when I click on the soft rock or whatever nothing happens. My character just walks forward and stops without doing anything. I managed to get one boulder so it isn't that I can't mine. What do I do?

Can you post a screenshot of the wall you are trying to mine?

You have to target the "ground" of the tile you wish to mine. If you are using a custom client sometimes the view makes it hard to click the ground. Raise the camera up in the sky a bit so it's looking down on you, then it's easier to target the ground.
