Yeah, I didn't get any of my stuff back, but it was nice to see his character in the stocks. I gave him a couple whippings, haha. I do appreciate the help you guys have given me, it's nice to see an active game community willing to help new players.

**Warning - very long, windy and ranty*

I know this is a very old topic and the argument I'm about to raise is very redundant as well - but it seems to me there is a huge imbalance in the game in terms of meting out consequences for those who "rob from the weak because they can" and the options for what a new or semi early stage character can do in terms of protection. I mean, when the best advice the OP is getting is "move" or "I'll give you some silver towards rebuilding" - seems to me that's a bit skewed in favor of the criminal mechanics of the game. Particularly when, in an attempt to respond to the actions - it is likely YOU will suffer a much worse penalty, stacked on top of what's already happened. (I.e. If you attempt to "steal" your own stuff back, it is likely you'll be summoned and perma killed) It is sort of a "bend over and then say thank you very much kind sir when I give it to ya up the bum!" situation imo.

So IF you can't play 24-7 or aren't into POUNDING characters into killing machines from your first login, your options are quite limited if any and the best you can hope for is to fly under the radar and hope no powerful sociopaths happen to cross your path. That's just not very balanced imo. There needs to be "equal opportunity" options for those that play to build and explore (the game text implies this is the case - that it caters to both peaceful PvE types as well as PvP types) vs those that prefer, like welfare recipients, to live off the effort and time (and cash) invested by others and then gleefully gloat about "hey, I'm just playing the game!" And to me a simple disclaimer about the game carrying "permadeath" isn't the do all/be all/end all. If you don't want players who are not PvP'rs - then why not SAY THAT in your disclaimer?

----------
Something like this: WARNING: This game has permadeath as part of its mechanics and we don't like care bears here. Oh wait, we DO actually like care bears who spend money in the cash shop, who quietly mind their business and do a lot of effort and time toward making resources that the players we ACTUALLY cater to can then steal from you and then kill you for their entertainment sport too, if you try and respond early stages. AND, as an added bonus we'll glibly give them every opportunity to, after they've raped you completely, ridicule you on your way out the door for not being willing to stick around to have it all happen again.
----------

Sorry, but I've been reading too many of these threads lately and even though I've stupidly spent quite a bit of money in the cash shop and a fair amount of time building up my base - I'm nowhere near ready to build a brick or plank wall (and just recently acquired the skills to make wrought for braziers) - and if I'm lucky, can only spend a few hours a night a couple days a week playing - so will take me quite awhile to get the skills and mats necessary to protect myself even barely adequately. To me that's just so wrong - and ironically, everything else about the game I love. But if that does happen to me, it is likely I will rage quit as I do not like killing other players - absolutely no entertainment value in that for me personally (and again, w/the time and focus in the game being limited it is unlikely that I could retaliate in any meaningful way anyway - which is the entire POINT of this rant), and I won't have many other options to want to try and do it all over again.

To the OP (sorry for the momentary laspse, rant and semi-hijack of your thread), I'm so sorry that happened to you and if I were a bit "bigger/stronger" character I would try to help. I give you huge thumbs up for not wanting to quit and for sticking around to rebuild - I doubt I'd do the same if I were in your position.

I think your perception is off a little. People do post about how they have been raided but the truth is most people do go unnoticed or are not worthy of raiding. If you build a giant brick house on a pClaim with stone hedge walls and only torch posts you will probably get robbed quickly. However the truth is most people will pass you by if your doors are closed and locked... Because the truth is committing a crime is a very serious thing. In this post alone the person that committed the crime lost the character. The character had to have 130+ biles to break the stone hedge and get through all for what to steal som iron.... He lost a character that probably took him 3-5 days and a lot of resources for something that he already probably has an abundance of. So the price is high and there are losers on both ends.

I myself was new and did not fully understand the mechanics enough and was robbed. I tried for days to put the person in stockades but could not as he was online. This was before madness and the person could stay online indefinitely without any problems. I caught him twice during maintenance restarts. Still I did not get my items back or my silver but that is just the game. Yes people will use mechanics against you to do wicked things but that is how you learn the game. Just like life you win some you lose some. But over all if you understand the mechanics and think through the situations you can out wit most of the acts that are done against you and at that point you will probably start to do the same to others around you.

Yeah, I do really enjoy this game, it's just tough how much I have to grind in order to protect my simple resources like dried planks and iron. I thought the people with higher level characters wouldn't be interested in cheap stuff like that, which is why I was quick to build simple defenses, but I didn't do the grind to build myself a three layer wall with braziers. I'm working on my second wall now, it just seems a little silly for how little I'm trying to protect...
