Friend who left

I have a friend who was living in my homestead and helping me build, and he logged out in his bed, in his house. It's been about three weeks since he logged in. Is there any way to remove him? Without leaving a criminal scent, preferably. I don't want to permanently kill him either, in case he comes back or something.

You can destroy leantos on your own claim without leaving a scent.
You can also destroy the bed he's sleeping in, doing so won't kill him.
If you build something else on that spot, though, he'll have trouble logging in and will have to log in at his homestead. Should the homestead be destroyed, he will login in Providence.

That makes sense. If I do that, he'll just have to claim a leanto before he logs out again in order to not perma-die, correct?
