Well, well... ain´t this thread notorious? 2000+ views and counting...
I will start saying this: I lost my mind and start crying and whining about my dead char and used the real life bragging to punch because my killer obviously bests me in-game.
That wasn't nice, I know it, it looked fool and childish and I apologize.
It is true that I had my doors open, and a scent, and I had it coming, its all part of the game and that's OK.
This could be only hilarious and not offensive thread if the replies were aimed at me, like "screw u wimp" or "***** you and your fake money IRL" etc...
But what came after the first posts was astonishing. "Filthy Brazilian thieves", "slum dwellers"... Man this got way of control.
Even my GF who had nothing to do with my post, and knew about it almost 2 days later was called a "slum dweller"...
You see, as a victim of this crime (and yeah, it is a crime, ill quote the US federal law in a few) my only reaction was to persecute legal means to defend myself.
That's was actually fun that you guys got hysterical about it, laughing and joking about it, and yeah it is a big shot in the dark to
Pursue your rights in an online environment, where most pp is protected by semi-anonymous masks.
But IM not crazy to think about this: I did some research and USA itself is full of organizations, inside and outside the government, that fights this kind of stuff.
There is also plenty of jurisprudence regarding the matter and big companies have been condemned because they didn't moderate this kind of comments.
Blizzard, Microsoft(Xbox life), Sony and Rockstars´s Social Club were just a few that I could find. They were sued and in most cases they lost, even with the best lawyers money could buy
(none of them better than MOM of course XD)
So,there is lots of ways to make it fly, and a lot of doors to knock. Its not a lost case, not at all.
hatecrime.osce.org for instance, is open to take and look upon this kind of denounces for free, at ANY time. And this is an american organization.
When it comes to Europe, it gets even better (and I say this because the owner of this domain is Ascio technologies, from Denmark).
They have plenty of specific legislation and held an assembly, where USA took part, discussing and refuting this kind of behavior.
"Racism/xenophobia is not an option, its a crime" they said. The whole conference can be seen here:
http://www.assembly.coe.int/nw/xml/XRef ... 40&lang=enGuys this is so frigging serious that even the FBI (yeah the FBI) made a link exclusive for denounce internet crimes, that are "violations of US federal law".
And guess what? Xenophobia is a federal law violation in US. Check this out :
" Defined in the 1999 National Crime Victim Survey, "A hate crime is a criminal offense. In the United States, federal prosecution is possible for hate crimes
committed on the basis of a person's race, religion, or NATION ORIGIN. Forty-five states and the District of Columbia have
Statutes criminalizing various types of hate crimes. Thirty-one states and the District of Columbia have statutes creating
a civil cause of action in addition to the criminal penalty for similar acts. Twenty-seven states and the District of Columbia
have statutes requiring the state to collect hate crime statistics.[72]
According to the FBI Hate Crime Statistics report for 2006, hate crimes increased nearly 8% nationwide, with a total of 7,722 incidents
and 9,080 offenses reported by participating law enforcement agencies.
This except came from wikipedia, and the FBI link u can find here:
https://www.fbi.gov/report-threats-and-crime.
I don't even know what do to from here. The moderators at the forum only laughed, I think its not their problem after all, they are not the owners
and would never be held responsible for what happens there in a legal way.
I tried to contact the companies/brands involved but nothing is happening so far. Mortal Moments and John Carver I emailed Saturday, no response.
BP said to find the domain owner, which I did. Ascio Tech I contacted today and still no answer but there was no time yet anyways.
Enar, Unesco, Hatecrimes and the FBI I hadn´t the courage to poke yet, but Ill eventually will because nobody here seems to give a rat´s ass.
Everyone is free to laugh at it, all this efforts might be in vain, it can all be a waste of time. The laws on internet offenses still toddles and
its hard to prosecute, even more being so far away of the involved countries as I am.
But here in "Filthy Brazil" there is, too, an specific team in the federal police (that may be located in a slum for all you know) that persecute this kind of crimes
and surprisingly, THERE IS A DIPLOMATIC TREATY WITH USA involving both polices, where they can request info and material proofs of felony.
I might seem crazy to dig all this stuff over a game, but I know that every crime lost all chances to be punished when the
victims sits idle, undermined and scared. And, as one of you said, as a Brazilian I know crime. We are all "rapist and murderers" after all...
Ill drop this thing now if:
1 - The peopple who said the worst things about Brazil/Third world filthy thieves apologize publicly and in Highlights
2 - The ban of Clayet is removed and turned to Darworth (Dude you guys banned Clayet for SPAMMING REPORT THIS THREAD? THIS TRHEAD IS A ***** CRIME SCENE!)
3 - All "filthy brazilian and general third world slum dwellers thieves" gets US$1000 credit at salem store.
And that is that.
Best Regards.
