Fence building...

Postby sirgringo » Mon Aug 10, 2015 1:46 pm

Ok, I'm working on a split rail fence and trying to put another corner post in so I can create my entrance/gate. At first I set it in the correct spot but it was too close so I had to destroy it and make another. Not it seems that the new corner post is either to far or maybe just a little offline because I don't get the option to create a gate. Looks like I'm going to have to remake this one too. How do you get them lined up so I can create my gate and secure my homestead?

from http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Stone_Hedge

If you don't place the starter post exactly on the tile (it means snap to grid not placing it free with Ctrl) then you can't build a door at the end even if you have 2 tiles space between 2 Cornerposts!

use shift and mousewheel to rotate. never use control to place freely

So I should destroy all of the fence I've built so far and start over? The very first corner post was placed using CTRL.

As of now my fence is "L" shaped so I haven't gone too far to turn back yet. :D

depends on how OCD you are. you can probably fix it by building new corner posts next to the fence. there will be a gap depending on how bad it is and such. it is workable but if it was me i would rip it out and start over. furthermore split rail fence is really not of much use. most people start with at least stone. If it is on a town claim a makeshift works all right for a temporary fence however once mature if you break one section the entire fence all the way around will probably disappear due to splash.
