Finding more metal in a mine

Just Curious,

I built my base around an iron mine which i eventually mined all the ore within about 1-2 support radius of the ladder.

I have probed in various directing up to 5 or 6 supports and haven't found any other nodes. Is it worth mining out further or will i never find more ore. Is it best to create another mine further from my base or try to dig deeper?

I assume a single minehole wouldn't have such a small amount of ore but maybe i am wrong.

Keep mining, youll eventually run into another node.
