PvP questions - or how to find an enjoyable thing to do

Postby gustavohvg » Fri Aug 07, 2015 12:55 pm

Ok, I begun to play and in 3 weeks I have the intermediate skills, safe base, wrought iron tools and buildings, etc. I also got most of this game mechanics and will switch to a town soon.

Now what to do to have some fun? As far as I can see destroying/stealing/killing/witch-ing will leave summinable scents and I will die while offline - and I don't have the patience required to build a 100 humours char/alt only.to easily loose it in 1 day.

I can see that taking advanced cooking skills would be good. I can also see that Mines & Mountains and Threads & Needles and Herbs & Sprouts would grant me real advantages, and I'm probably raising these skills in the next weeks. So beyond that point the game is basically hoard things, cut criminals hands and whipping them, and pointlessly raising very high levels of humours?

About everything in this game requires some patience, skills and infrastructure are speeding things up.

It's not pointless if you raise your character high enough and act clever enough with it, because then you might just not lose it in a day. To steal and kill and hex you don't necessarily need 100 humours, although of course having them and above is making things much easier/more comfortable. Salem is what you make out of it, but it can get pretty dull if you're all by yourself.

I suggest you hurry up with the joining a town, surely together you will find something fun to do and/or a goal to achieve.

Even if you're on a temporary server at the moment, keep in mind that you're here forever. ;)

Hi HDBD. Actually yes I'm on Popham and have you in my kin list

Since you always leave scents in stealing/killing/hex how is it ever possible to be safe while doing these things?

Also I've seen that you can put a tClaim over a pClaim and this will probably generate some pvp without scents. When you unclaim your town can you recover the silver and materials?

If you aren't willing to make a new character to do crime because you don't want to wait the time to do so, what will you do when your main is caught and killed.

Sounds like you'll just quit playing.

Well this post is meant to view my options in the game. My main char only wanders in the city and near my base/town so it seems that would be pretty difficult to get myself killed.

As far as I can see I would hxoave to actively repeat procedures for maybe 10 hours to have an alt good enough to commit crime (which probably will not involve pvp), then I would soon loose him (?) while having now meaningless hoarded things (?).

Yeah if the fun is about hoarding/ building huge bases / loosing a 10 hour alt in x days the game is definetly not for me. I still can enoy the war that will happen in popham around the statues though.

its a sandbox game, you make your own fun. people have done all sorts of interesting things. some take pleasure in things like crime, trading, building etc. Some people come up with less common goals, for example manipulating the server's politics, getting power etc. One of the things i love about this game is that player's goals and motivations are often driven by the actions of others. Back in the day, plotting against the tribe was so fun! I see many people driven by desires to take revenge for wrongs done to themselves or their friends, or merely wanting to 'stop the bad guys' so the server will be a better place, etc.

OP, the fact you have to ask makes me think you probably don't belong here at all, but you speak of wanting to enjoy the war of the statues- how about involving yourself in it? An ambitious noob on popham might even consider trying to win the whole server.

^ Now that is a good info. Thanks.

As I said by now I'm pretty happy with the game, but I'm imagining the long run. If anyone could speak a little of:

1) How your char can be somewhat safe even leaving summonable scents
2) Is it possible to recover the 8k silver and materials of a town?

it would be great. You don't have to teach me the (1) thing, just confirm it is possible please?
