The Sacrificial Altar

Postby pingytalk » Mon Jul 27, 2015 7:16 am

Hey ! I think this is new, if not I apologize. Searched forum for somethin like it already.

It'd be nice if Witches had a structure to stop draining in the Light. Like the opposite of a church.

Obviously it wouldn't be fair if it worked EXACTLY like the church, almost no reason for someone not to become a witch.

To balance it, it could work like a sacrifical altar: A human stops drain for a few days, a bear or cougar stops it for a day, rabbits/beaver stop it for an hour.

That way, to stop drain you'd have to upkeep it; like you do now, you have to keep your humours up to overcome the drain. This would just be an alternative to that that's more efficient and works on more than one witch, but also is confined to one area.

Anyway, tell me whatcha think!

In order to fulfill this criterion, I've added on a bit to the suggestion.

Exponential cost for the altar, that resets after a set time (a week or after equal time not in use). Example: 1 day, 1 scalp. 2 day, 2 scalp. 3 day, 4 scalp. So on, so on.

Uses for a temporary, witch-version of the church:
1. If a daring group of witches wanted, they could create a temporary safe claim near Providence to trade at and prey on unsuspecting pilgrims.
2. A witch, or group of witches, intending to raid a town/claim could create a claim of their own to camp out safely to wait at until their fellows arrive or for tactical purposes during the raid. (such as storing loot or goading a scent)
3. I could foresee an interesting dynamic if a town decided to claim an area on the edge where the light meets the darkness for witches and pilgrims to co-exist.

Additional suggestion for balance: bile drain for witches should occur even when logged out in the light. Probably same for pilgrims. (tested it briefly, doesn't appear to occur while logged out atm)
Otherwise its totally possible for a witch with high enough biles to live in the light right now. Annoying, but possible.
With this, a witch couldn't just log out inside an altar protected zone for an infinite period of time. They'd have to log back in to leave, or restock the altar; otherwise they'd KO.

tl;dr: an immovable temporary safe-zone structure for witches.

There is no structure, but you can drink a specific item to stop the drain for a period of time.

Ill let you work out the finer mechanics on how to obtain it.

Is juice a structure? If so, what's an item?

A structure is anything with a hitbox, including all sign built objects, some things made in the kiln, and many natural objects. An item can be held in your inventory and doesn't have a hitbox when on the ground.

I think he was wondering too what structure you were refering too that would prevent draining of humours in the light.
Unless you were refering to only the beetlejuice?

Beetle Juice is pretty well known now, unfortunately. Otherwise, let's not reveal any more Witchcraft info, okay?

Yea, I know about the item that stops it. I mean a structure; like the church. Something more permanent and immovable that still requires upkeep. I always thought of the item for witches like the witch version of a torch is for pilgrims.

Torch is way easier to use. So, if a witch version of the church was made it'd make sense if it were a bit harder to use.
