Low cost of the skill (for Cows - not so low) is because town can recruit new players, which can help with the animals... at least, with pigs.

If hermit want animals - he can stop being a hermit and join a town with a barn. If he don't want to join a town - he can buy meat and milk from those who have animals and barn. Hermit isn't supposed to do everything in this game, but if he can - he can prove it by building a barn.

His reason is about Hermits, but even for villages having gradations and tiers just makes sense. You have a progression from small and bad hovels to practical buildings to ones that are kind of extravagant. You start with a stone grinder that works, move on to probably fairly practical for many purposes copper grinders, and then you can make a windmill, if you want. It's probably worth it in the long run, but it's expensive.

You also have progression in sleds and stuff. Frontier sleds, regular sleds, then you get carts, which are impossible to live without once you get them, but expensive. Many people make do with canoes or find them useful for individual movement, but for some purposes you have boats.

Even for a well established village a barn like the one we have is a pretty big investment, besides you know, being really big. An up and coming village might make do with something smaller. One that was jealous of space or just wanted to be thrifty might settle for the next tier down.

Unlike the stuff you mentioned above, animals aren't required for everybody. It's high-end content for teams.

It's true, animals and orchards are supposed to be high end and more difficult for a single player to maintain alone. Same with the better metals.

what is hard to get 75 flora and fauna skill for a single hermit ?but another question why hermit player needs to build THE MOST BIGGEST BUILDING just to keep some pigs ?
have you ever think maybe people like to keep just some animals because they like it ,and i sure they do not need all types of animals and this the most biggest building

explain why are you not going to add a small barn?

i can't agree if it must be high end if i see it's easy for hermit who is playing like a month to buy a pig and keep for it ,because there are not need so many things ,but again BARN

if animals supposed to be high end ,you should make it harder ,but not like every hermit can easy get pig keeping and buy them ,and can't build this BARN

Difficult, or tediously onerous in a questionable fashion?

Well anyway I've spoken my peace. If you guys are happy with the way it is, then fine. If you want to change it, then fine. There are factors other than the difficulty for single people, which I have explained.

I just explained it to you. The skills is not hard to learn, but the barn is quite a bit more difficult for a hermit to build than a whole town working together. They are also more difficult to monitor if it's only one guy. You CAN keep some animals just because you like to and you don't NEED a barn, you'll just have a harder time of it, and that's what we want. We want some things to be easier to either buy or do with a group.

Okay... one more time. Animals, orchards, advanced metals are all meant to be a lot easier for a group than for a single player. They are not impossible for a single player because this is a sandbox and we try to leave you options. But we also want to encourage groups to play together and we want to encourage trade. So, these things are easier to do in a group, or to buy if you are a hermit. Animals are not JUST for big groups, but they are a lot easier to produce if you are in a group and that is how we want it.

Getting back on the subject, 2 and 3 aren't going to happen, probably. Even though I can see the roleplay aspect of keeping a pig or goat in a hovel or farmer's hut, I don't see how we could make it work.

1 and 4 are interesting though, if implemented together.

i can't understand this really ,as you said this is sandbox and where i can choose my own way ,but as you say you are trying to make people playing together ,tell me for ?as you said one more time it is sandbox ,and this game never was just for group playing ,so why are you trying to do this ?what is hard to make ***** small barn for SINGLE PLAYERS??this is not just game for group playing ,when you can understand this ?why are you trying to make **** game from normal salem?

imo the barn is not the problem it is how quickly they die from sickness. (had a sheep die in the space of 3 hours)
Also seems to be some sort of bug where they are sick but they still run around normally.
overall getting burnt out on the animals :( Too much heartache I get attached way too quick
If there were a way to prevent them from getting sick entirely (like you give them a superfoods supplement and they don't get sick for something like 24 hours) I really feel like all of Salem would be better off. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

The barn is not that hard it is only like 200 board piles, 60 iron bars and 100 grass, animals have one on Popham already and I am going to throw one up on prov just cause it is cute.
