We can only guess how much of the ill gotten gains he secured for his person compared to the person who did the foot work. Still, credit where credit is due. He noticed an opportunity (that's what this is, no doubt) and took action so that when the dust settled, he got Stuff.

Even in the most dismissive interpretation of events this is akin to a small bird leading a scavenger to a carcass and eating the giblets it exposes by tearing it open, or a similar bird leading a bear or honey badger to a tasty morsel like a bee hive or trash can and again, eating the left overs.

And that's assuming he didn't somehow get a better deal, He seems to suggest he got something he considered fairly valuable out of this, although he would.

"I killed/stole" Friends and allies back them up with praise no matter how crappy their kill/raiding was
"I killed/stole" All haters denounce it as worthless and not an accomplishment.

In short a constant circle jerk amongst haters/followes over ones "thread".

Rather he paid or not for someone to do his bidding in the end, his goal is done, thus he is the victor of the spoils.
Much wiser to send a minion/mercenary to do your bidding rather then getting your own hands dirty...
