What am I doing wrong

Postby IanIre » Sat Jul 11, 2015 2:05 pm

I finally set up my ore smelter, have all the skills required, used the wiki and placed 22 ore/3 lime in the smelter.
At the end, no iron. Did it a second time thinking I made a mistake and got the same results.
Tried going with all 25 ore and nothing.
Please let me know what I'm doing wrong and have missed on the wiki.

Thanks

Why don't you just use something in-between 15-10 and 10-15?
The new formula is still unknown that's why I didn't even touch the smelter page on the wiki. ATM the best idea is to fill the smelter ~50/50.
Some people certainly almost figured out the new system, but they won't share it with the public, because it gives them a huge advantage.

Thank you, the wiki didn't say anything about it being updated and I couldn't find anything in the patch notes about it changing.
50/50 will have to wait till I can get a decent supply of lime.
I set up in a nice place except for that one little detail.
*facepalm*

In my experience 13 lime : 12 ore is pretty much ideal. On most runs I get 2 bars, but for about every fourth run I get 3.

http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Ore_Smelter

Since I had few lime, I tried the 22/3 listed towards the bottom of the chart.
This produced nothing twice in a row. The third attempt I used 25 ore alone
and still nothing. When I used the 13lime/12 ore, I was able to get a few bars of pig iron.
Seems there might be a minimum lime needed now?
Or I was jsut doing something else wrong

or... I have a thief near since I walked away from my smelter for a few and just came back to see nothing inside at all.
Yes, I know it should be on owned ground and now I have more incentive for that

The failed ore should definitively leave behind dross, so an opportunist/thief is quite probable.

I've added a warning about outdated formulas on the wiki. I know 10 iron and 10 lime should be somewhat around 180%-190%. Pjotr84 suggestion seems to be more efficient though.

Confirmed I use 13 lime and 12 ore I get 2 bars in the first run then three bars for the second run two bars for the third three bars for the fourth ect... so it would seem that you get about ~2.5+ bars per run using this formula

EDIT: Slightly less than 2.5 bars per run exact figure unknown
