Snakes and Serum.

Postby camobeast » Tue Nov 13, 2012 6:57 pm

Due to the relatively scarce and also unobtainable material for newbies getting bit by a snake almost certainly means death and not too slowly either specially when your playing a newer character.

Although it makes sense to brew an anti-venom with the venom itself it would perhaps be better if all ingredients where forageable instead so at least then people can have a fighting chance to stop themselves from dying when a snake pops out of a log...

It would also be good if the poison did not do so much damage so that you at least have a chance to administer an anti-venom at the moment its pretty well a certain death scenario.

Theres a thin line between making something too hard and too easy, snakes and the anti-venom currently are rediculous.

I think there should be items that people want that are unobtainable at their current level that forces them to interact with the community/economy and reach out for help.

Therefore, I think its just right.

I agree that there should be aspects of the game that encourage group play afterall it is an mmorpg but at risk of going off topic there just isnt a whole lot of incentive to group play because of the seemingly limited amount of resources in an area people tend to shy away from it.

From my experiance getting bit by a snake usually ends up like this, move 5 tiles, pass out, die.

And it concludes with

"WTB Anti-Venom" in Boston

So that it doesn't happen again. So boom... Desired effect achieved.

I don't have trouble finding resources and I'm sharing an area with over 10 different people.

Then again there's a kind of rivalry between the north and the southern folks.

This is just the growing pangs of early server. And a wise pilgrim can easily avoid being snaked very often. Give it 2 months and the server will be flowing at the brims with garlic and anti-poison.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

You can buy anti-venom from hudson bay's stall and snakes are really easy to avoid.

Actually, noobish character has chance to survive poisoning, unlike developed one. Thing is - with each tick poison drains some percentage (I think 2%, but not sure) of maximum value. So it will take same amount of time to die for noob and for developed char. But food restoration speed is fixed (or grows slower than poison damage, maybe square root of max value). So noob can eat food to keep poison off, while developed char can't. And poison should wear off after 5 minutes. Yes, sure, it will take lots of food to survive that, but it is possible. Especially in some nice forest full of shrooms.

After 5 minutes it's just instant ko I think, it does not wear off. Though you're right about it being easier to stay alive longer if my info is right.
