Madness

Postby axo95b » Thu Jul 02, 2015 11:25 pm

Ok so I've been playing for a few weeks now and every day I have to deal with madness. I cant figure out what is causing it all I'm really doing is mining and gathering stuff. Yet after a few hours of playing after I get rid of the madness it comes right back. I haven't been able to spend any of my silver on stuff I want like more land because every bit I get goes to tobacco. Not to mention I broke a pick-axe which cost me 700s all and all I have spent probably 2000s on madness over the past few days. I crafted a teddy bear, parked my char for at-least 8 hours woke up 0 madness but 2 hours later My char had madness again. WHAT IS GOING ON!! This is so annoying.

Thanks John, Looks like the same info that is on the wiki though. I do things that lower my insanity like cooking and whittling but then I light my smelter and boom insanity lvl. I don't get it... So I guess I wont be playing this game today because I'm not going to risk killing another pickaxe. This game seems like it could be a lot of fun but all I am doing is killing Crickets to buy tobacco and sleeping.

I already said this was broken and unfair for newbies, but don't worry you have your teddy bear so it's 1 method to lower madness. And you won't have to buy tobacco ever again with your teddy bear.
At level 1 on madness it's highly unlikely that you break a tool.

Check the list of things that cause you to gain insanity, and do them less frequently? Or alternate your activities so that you're never on a gaining streak.

Insanity is an easy thing to manage, i honestly cant grasp why so many people are having trouble with it. You seem to be doing things that add insanity repetitively, or your going AFK and standing still a lot.

Three simple things you can do to avoid going insane:

1. Build a Leafy Bed and Sleep EVERY time you go afk, there should never be a time where you are standing still for more than 2 minutes, AFKing for long periods of time will gain you madness levels very quickly.

2. If you have a madness level, sleep with a Teddy bear, make sure you sleep in a bed, doing so will reduce Insanity and Madness at the same time.

3. Avoid doing things that gain you insanity to often, Such as pulling salamander tails, squirrels, etc, the list of insane things is in the post above me.

Its that simple. Combination of a Bed and Teddybear will solve your insanity issues. Sleep often, even if its for 2 minutes.. JohnCarver said that AFKing for 38 hours straight will permakill you, combine that with the things that give small amounts of insanity and its easy to gain madness, but if you balance it out with sleeping, studying, and crafting, its perfectly balanced.

It's worth noting that you can't stay afk because there is an npc recording the time people stay alive and rewarding the top 10 players with completly white hair.

The thing is I do pretty much none of the things that cause insanity and a decent amount of things that are supposed to help it. It took me a while to save for that pick-axe I was madness lvl 2 and it broke after like me 5th time using it. I just wish there was a mechanic that could gradually lower the madness level. Right now my only option is to log out for 8 hours but if I do that and I'm gaining it back in 2 well... I don't see the point in playing. I mean its not like a go around farming thorns or ripping tails off salamanders. But lets review the list

Pulling the stinger on a drone bee adds a tiny bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Pulling the stinger on a queen bee adds a tiny bit of insanity ---I have never done this
Pulling the stinger on a delphi bee adds a tiny bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Checking Mr. Puggles Leaderboard now adds a tiny bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Seeing a Wishpoosh adds a tiny bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Seeing a Quetzalcoatl adds a tiny bit of Insanity. ---I have never done this
Seeing a Hydrukey adds a tiny bit of Insanity. ---I have never done this
Wringing the Neck of a squirrel now adds a small amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
Becoming whipped in the stocks now adds a small amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
Sniffing Smelling Salts now adds a small amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
Feeding Royal Jelly to dead creatures now adds a small amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
Seeing a furfur adds a small amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
Wringing the neck of a turkey adds a small amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
When a flower terminates on 'she loves me not' a small amount of insanity is added. ---I have done this a few times but it seemed to be 50/50 with she loves me
Pulling the tail off a Salamander now adds a good bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Finding a trace of the lost colony now adds a good bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Drinking Snake Oil now adds a good bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Eating Rotten fruit now adds a good bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Cutting a Caterpillar from his cocoon early adds a good bit of insanity. ---I have never done this
Witnessing a mischievious gnome now adds a good bit of insanity. ---I had this happen it made me drop all my stuff right next to a tree so I had to chop the tree so I could reach it all

Sniffing Satan Salts now adds a great deal of Insanity. ---I have never done this
KOing will add a great deal of insanity. ---I've done this a few times but way less than my friend who has never had a madness level.

Finding a Thumbnail in your pie now adds a great deal of insanity. ---I have never done this
Robbing a grave adds a huge amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
Scalping a player adds a huge amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
Players may lick moldy boards clean to fresh boards again. Doing so will add a huge amount of insanity. Don't lick mold. ---I have never done this
Spawning a Lumberlord now adds a huge amount of insanity. ---I have never done this
Being online when a Blood Moon occurs now adds a TREMENDOUS amount of insanity. ---I have never done this (to my knowledge.

I slept 12-13 hours with my teddy woke up with 0 madness and Did'nt get KO'd didn't find a Gnome literally did nothing to increase my insanity. Within 2.5 - 3 hours I had madness lvl 1. My friend just laughs at me because we do pretty much the same things and he has never had an issues like a lot of people say. I'm going to try mining but if this pickaxe breaks.... I think that will be it for me for a while.

Hardly..just ask myself and fellow villagers.

Also, on the long list of do's n don'ts, read the minor updates after those notes were posted. Several were changed a bit such as the Ko'ing adding a great deal of insanity. Either way, even if you do NOTHING that increases insanity, you gain it slowly yet constantly while playing. Hence, only play a few hours a day, spending those hours gathering inspirationals, so that the next day you can build a few fence links while studying said inspirationals every 3 to 4 mins. To really play more than that you need to have things more readily available, how you do that as a noob, I dunno but I suppose some manage. Just I hear those same people talking about being raided cause they didn't have defenses up lol.

Insanity doesn't go to 0 after you lower a madness level, that means you were about to drop to the next madness level when you went to sleep.
