Affluence currently has three uses. It allows you to enter certain buildings in town. It determines the amount of tobacco seed one gets from harvesting a tobacco field. It also allows you to push other players if you have a higher affluence than they do.

Shows how rich you are, basically letting you be a *****. Higher affluence than someone let you push him around, stopping him from teleporting home. Also help you getting into church, hookah, better tobacco yield. I think that's it for now?
Basically it is how rich you look, with gems and exotic artifacts and stuff.
