I agree to all of the points stated. I started the game less than 30 minutes ago and I already feel strongly about bringing up this major point. The first thing you notice in a game IS the camera, it would be like watching a movie where the camera position is wrong all the time, no matter how great the movie is, without good camera angles you can simply forget about it.
Being in 3rd person is simply a MUST for any game that tries to claim it's 3d. 3d doesnt just mean prettier graphics, it also means being able to move within a 3d standard when we are talking games. This is simply not possible right now with the camera the way it is, I have buildings covering up the whole screen, I can't get behind my character which causes no immersion at all, and if I'm not struggling with all of this I am busy stuggling with the fact that when you finally get the camera right somehow and then hit the movement key it's all been for nothing.

This is the most urgent matter of all, not matter how much work it'll cost. Any game content is irrelevant before this has been fixed, because no new content can be possibly enjoyed when one has to deal with this stuff going on.

So, loftar implemented an options menu in his client...I dont really see what the problem is with having the default camera and put a toggle for freecam. The initial presentation of the game is best viewd in the default camera, and then any user that doesn't like it will most assuredly click the options button.

Yes, this or move to another custom client because the standard client misses the freecam option. I like being on a horizontal line behind my character, not somewhere angled from above where I see nothing but the ground.. It doesn't matter how ugly it is (still), as long as the gameplay is functioning, and let's be honest, when one can't see an arm length in front of themselves it just doesn't function..

if you are playing this game from behind your character you won't be doing much other then farming and dying.

While i don't think the camera is the biggest problem of the game (i think it works fine and actually pretty smooth now that I'm used to it) i do agree that it could be improve. Fog is a good idea, i think if you could separate it more from your character focusing more on the edges, based on that second fog picture loftar posted, it could look and work great!

What I had in mind was FOV though, field of vision, maybe increasing or decreasing it would help somehow. Large FOV is always nice ^^

Bigger FOV would be a very nice thing, but AFAIK it'd put too much strain on the server to be feasible (the more you see, the more data needs to be sent).

Or things get ugly like in enders. Which is a problem for the game being "professional". Unfortunately, s'long as we allow custom clients any edge we can get will be taken.

One thing I'd really like to ask for. Key based camera controls on rotation/angle. The auto rotator does a very bad job at helping people without a middle mouse button: fiancee tried playing without one for a month and it was comical/sad that she'd ask me to get something from a cupboard in the house after 5 minutes of trying to angle the camera by walking around in circles.

Incidentally it would also remove pressure from mouse clicking, which is a carpal tunnel problem for me :/
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

Does it load depending on where your camera looks or what your character position is? Because if it's the latter then I think changing the FOV wouldn't do a thing when it comes to the amount of data sent.
