You = "waaaaaa, I'm new and I want to commit crimes without understanding the consequences. BUG!!! Yes, I pushed the button to turn criminal acts on myself, without knowing what it does or researching, so what? BUG!!!"

Just saying, you want to dive in head first like that without checking the depth of the water, expect a broken neck.

And what is the consequence? Being freaking stuck! I don't even care if I died because of it. That would be an ok broken neck. I would inherit the properties from my dead character and off I go, I learned and now I won't be stupid. But seriously, being stuck for hours at something that looks like just a 'loophole' in the gameplay, isn't nowhere near a good thing to make people learn. It isn't even being stuck at quicksand (that would make sense), it is rather being stuck at an abstract gameplay measure thing. It's just frustrating, and defending the opposite is being a blind fanatic.

Who got themself a crime debuff without having the appropriate regen consumables to be able to manage the situation? Who didn't read the tooltip on the itchy britches, and got themself in a loop by their own lack of attention?

Here's the thing about Salem - it doesn't forgive stupid. And here on the forums, you won't get sympathy if you come crying. Consider it a filter against undesirables for those that do stick around.

This argument is pointless now, everybody have made their point clear, if somehow we disagree then we should accept that there are other opinions floating around and move on.
The case is solved I believe?
P.S. Just had a similar argument with my wife and is currently typing on the couch. I warn you, gentlemen.

Who is new at the freaking game and might not even keep playing it because came across something that does look more like a bug than anything else. But clearly you and many around, would only like to play a game if it doesn't welcome people. Well, I don't know. it makes you feel special, maybe...

Well, at least I think the developers agree with you and suggest if you can make a paragraph about that subject, he could make a pop-up for you to prevent future blockage.

Yes, this thread is through. I saw your post only after I posted mine. I put together a small pharagraph in the last page, but if it isn't so well put, I can rewrite it, or the developers themselves, if they judge it would be good indeed to warn about that.

Please don't forget to add to your query the fact that a tooltip exists that tells you exactly what you need to do to prevent taking further damage from itchy britches, but that it is your opinion that this clear message is not helpful enough.

This game IS very, very frustrating Neza. I've been playing it for years and it's a never ending headache of questions and occasional Eureka moments. I understand your pain. There are still things in this game I've never seen and let me tell you, I like games like that.

You didn't become "Stuck" in the game. What happened is that you happened upon 2 of the most difficult mechanics of the game at a very young time in your understanding of 'Salem'. Your character is not dead. He's just a bit too insane to use right now.

Here's what you do with that character now Neza:

1. Log it off. You don't have the ability to lower the madness levels yet. You need tobacco, Gems or a teddy bear at this point and you don't have access to them yet so just log it off and start a new character. This is a good thing. That character will be there for you later on once you've killed and stuffed your first bear to cure madness or raised and dried your first crop of tobacco.

Everyone has many, many characters that they're raising up for various tasks and jobs. Let's call this itchy character your madness, criminal tress-passer who ran around nakid on someone else's claim until he passed out in joy and slowly went insane because he persisted on that person's claim for 24 hrs. Your next character can try farming. Eventually you'll develop the skills on that character to heal the insane one. I personally have 10's of characters with various jobs to do and who are slowly building up themselves.

2. Don't turn on stuff you don't understand yet. This means don't turn on swimming until you know how much energy it takes to swim, ask Icon what's it's like to KO with a Claymore over water and he's played for over half the Providence server life. This means don't go into the darkness until you understand how it works. This also means don't turn on crimes until you understand what it does.

3. Every single Vet player trolling you here including the Dev being on his best behavior has done far stupider stuff than what happened to your character. They've all lost characters or really, really rare and expensive stuff. So don't let them get you down. JC himself died something like 17 times to various groups with characters far more valuable than the one you have with itchy britches.

4. Come on the public Teamspeak channel and talk to me and other mellow players or go to the 'Help' section here on the forums to ask questions. Trolling the 'Help' Section isn't allowed so you'll only get nice players helping you.

5. Don't quit the game. If you quit the game the no-life neck-beard basement dwelling jackasses win. The most valuable thing you posses in this game is your understanding of the mechanics. You now understand how Madness and Crime works which is waaaay more than a lot of noobs in this game. Use it to your advantage to build a better character. It's soooooo much easier to build your second, third, fourth, etc... character that it boggles your mind when you think back to how hard it was to learn the game.

6. Good Luck. Feel free to PM me or another nice vet player with any questions you have. It's easier than trying to get it from the forum.

Gems? What do gems have to do with madness?

To get to the Hookahs you'd need gems or other nice things.
