Noobie question on securing items?

Postby Antmf » Mon Jun 22, 2015 6:53 am

Hi all, from what i read people can steal from you in this game. My question to you is how do you keep your items secure at you leanto? Is there a way to do so? Thanks...

I don't know how to break the news to you, but I guess I have to...
Sorry, there is no safe way in this game. You will lose them if people really want them. So make it as hard as possible, and trick them into thinking "it doesn't worth it"
Hope that help.
Also, not only that they can steal from you, then can also burn your house down, destroy your base, push you around, shoot you, stab you, curse you, whip you, throw tomatoes at you, strip you naked, rape you, and then finally kill you.
All of them are real (except the rape part)
You thought I quit.

Build a brick wall spam braziers, and unless the person really hates you they'll go find someone else to rob.
It takes approx 2-3 bb tanks and 2 chars with at least 400-500 pleghm bashing your door even with that it'll be along while before they can even break in, that's also not counting all the times they have to run out and let tea heal them among other factors like how many braziers, and torchposts are shooting the tanks, and how many crits the person has taken, or if you are actively defending
.
99% of Salem's Providence will leave you alone if you do this.

As trungdle said, there is no to 100% securing your items. For now you can build a pclaim (with settling skill) and build a wall around your leanto (just make sure whole of the wall is within pclaim. Don't make a gate yet (as most likely you have no way to make keys yet), instead leave 1-tile wide hole in the wall and place construction sign - you will break it and rebuild it when you want to walk through. This would require any potential thief to have waste skill and leave summonable scents to get to your items. Don't think anyone would be willing to do that just to get their hands on some items from newbie char

Whoa, don't get ahead of yourselves here. You'll make him think it's pointless with all this 'brick wall brazier' stuff.

He's a newbie. He has a leanto. That's it.

Okay, the very first thing you do is put your stuff in boxes or baskets, pick it up, and right click your leanto. That puts stuff in your leanto, up to two containers worth. At the least, someone has to commit a crime to get it so no random other newbie can steal the stuff in your leanto.

Second, get silver for a Pclaim and make a small one where you want to settle. Put your leanto in there and build a little fence. That'll discourage more people.

Third, make your pclaim bigger and build better fences like a split rail or a stone wall. Stone walls are quite difficult to break and will keep out most casual raiders.

Forth, there are two types of fire defense. Braziers are nice, but Torchposts are MUCH easier for a new player to make right away. Make some torchposts asap and make sure their 'range rings' cover all parts of your wall. Just having one in range of each part of you wall will make a HUGE difference in who is willing to attack you.

Fifth, start going for the bigger stuff, the better walls, the braziers, etc.

Tip: Don't store a lot of stuff. Use your inspirations, eat your food, don't build tons of sheds full of hoarded crap. Don't build a big brick house before you build strong defenses. If you look poor and not worth the effort, far fewer people will be tempted to break in and check for goodies.

This is by far the best tip for anyone. Use or sell all the stuff you aren't using. Hoarding a bunch of stuff is just dumb.
