Nearly everyone crimes on alts, so while I would like to see some way of seeing total crimes committed on my alt after he/she dies crime sprees don't really last long enough to make having a leaderboard with incentives make sense.
I'd support a dedicated and stickied Rangering Post with a how to find a ranger in HOB and I'd support a Rangering Leaderboard in town with most Revenge Kills listed or that they factor into the Justice System Point Ranking, but other than that crime right now isn't particularly easy, and the insanity patch made it even harder, not easier.
I don't know what your talking about when you say this isn't how crime works. I get the Forgery and Poisoncraft scents would gum it up but you could exclude those in any scent markers I suppose.
It is hard to be a criminal now and I"m not complaining about that. What I am complaining about is the lack of Rangering. I always liked having a dedicated Rangering faction on Roanoke and it led to great drama. I don't think we have too much crime, I think we have too little Rangering.
TotalyMeow wrote:Why? Any player who wants help killing someone and doesn't know anyone in game that they can ask can come here to HoB and make a thread asking for veterans to help them. There is no need to make an in-game link to HoB when references to the forums are already abundant. IF there ever comes a time when posting on the forums asking for rangers becomes popular, I will consider a subforum of HoB specifically for such threads, but it seems that most people use in-game contacts or do their justice themselves.
But this never happens. Players go to HoB to find a Ranger and then nothing happens, nobody wants to risk a guy or spend the travel time to 2 different locations for what some noob can offer them. With better incentives, easy to find notice boards and transferable trackable scents some of the problems would be eliminated. I'm not talking about making it easier to kill criminals. I'm talking about more drama.

And like Pistolshrimp has already pointed out, debasement and other crimes would interfere with your system. Personally, I think towns should be able to practice combat internally against the day they might get raided without some dot on some magical Providence map showing everyone where their peaceful little town is located. Not to mention giving larger raiding groups an excuse to 'ranger' said town and pretend they are doing the world a favor. The king already gives rewards to those who turn in the scalp of a character with Murder skills. That is enough.
You could exclude debasement and poisoncraft probably.
I mean more of system of Notoriety is what I'm looking for. Maybe they cold make the list after 250 crimes commited. Maybe 1000. Maybe you could have the guy who's committed 30 murders be wanted by the king without revealing his location with unique prizes given.
The current murder scalp reward system is a start but lacking. I'd rather see a unique item like 'The Executioners Mask' for Rangers only that couldn't be worn if the person turned to crime.
I'm looking for more Drama and Role Play with this thread. I'm not looking for it to be dramatically easier to kill criminals specifically.

Normally players don't want to give out their location just to try and get a Ranger to the scent so why in the world can't you guys....
Make Scents Transferable in Town so that Rangers can be given Scents to hunt down criminals from Providence.
See, here's where you've forgotten some important facts. Any player who finds crime scents in or around their base can now track them to wherever they lead and make a map that anyone else on the server can use to attack the offending criminal. And the number of maps they can make is not even limited in any way. Maps for a dozen raiders? Maps for scouting alts? Maps for the original victim to teleport an alt out there and watch the revenge take place? Maps to sell to bystanders and make an event out of it? You can do it all! Scent transference is not at all needed and neither is giving your location out to others.
The map system is good and under-used by people seeking justice but most noobs and mid level players who come to the forums either don't know how it works or don't have the time or guts to track them down. Also the mapping system can still be used to trap a character if they port them off claim but still into an area surrounded by a brick wall or wall they can't break. They can of course just port out but if they're waiting for them then they can quickly claim over it.
All I'm suggesting is that a player could give a scent or some form of evidence to a player in Providence only in case they're unable to track or unable to get there.
Maybe we could just have a dedicated 'Justice Seeking' only thread like 'Tradewinds' where people offer up maps or evidence or memorizations to potential Rangers.
The best drama/roleplay we ever had in this game was with the Candy Gang Rangering system. It made the game much more fun.
