We Need A RANGER SYSTEM

Postby Claeyt » Tue Jun 02, 2015 6:52 pm

Reposting this here for more discussion on this hopefully. PvP Killing should be about hunting down criminals, witches and political factions not about killing noobs.

WE NEED A RANGER MECHANIC SYSTEM

1. Make a damn in-game Notice Board that leads to an online page like the store does with a Forum Page for Rangering/Reward offerings for noobs to get vet players to help them hunt down criminals. Make a Notice Board that shows a map to the general location of those criminals town maybe.

2. Have a system that shows who's the most prevalent criminal on the server by showing the top 20 characters that have the most crime scents active. Give rewards from the king to the Ranger that kills that character with the most scents active. Give something special to the criminal who's on that list.

3. Make a list of the top Criminal Dens on the server with the list being the towns with the most active scented Criminals living in it. Maybe give a general map to their area. A big circle for the Rangers to search instead of an 'X' like on the port maps.

4. One of the hardest things to do for Rangering is connecting the crime at some mid level base to someone who can actually do something about it. Normally players don't want to give out their location just to try and get a Ranger to the scent so why in the world can't you guys....

Make Scents Transferable in Town so that Rangers can be given Scents to hunt down criminals from Providence.

PVP should be about killing whomever the players in this sandbox decide should die. The system is already hilariously in favor of the Rangers, now if the people of Salem prefer the system of Justice and factions in power that they have, then who am I to say otherwise.

You can already effectively sell the location of scents.... person A gets robbed, person A tracks down location of criminal, makes a new world survey (or 5) distributes map and evidence to any ranger who wants to go get the criminal. After the deed is done person A can try to track the murderer (it will tell you they're dead to confirm) and then pay the ranger who can provide proof of the kill (dead murderer, scalp, ect.)

It goes in line with most mechanics I think, since it's based on having to have some bit of trust in the seller/buyer.

Nearly everything you have written here has no idea about how crime works in Salem right now. There isn't really Criminal Dens as you can TOC anyone. And with Forgery and Poisoncraft scents that system would be pretty complicated.

Nearly everyone crimes on alts, so while I would like to see some way of seeing total crimes committed on my alt after he/she dies crime sprees don't really last long enough to make having a leaderboard with incentives make sense.

I'd support a dedicated and stickied Rangering Post with a how to find a ranger in HOB and I'd support a Rangering Leaderboard in town with most Revenge Kills listed or that they factor into the Justice System Point Ranking, but other than that crime right now isn't particularly easy, and the insanity patch made it even harder, not easier.

/thread

Please learn the ranger system and actually try to use it before posting something like this.

Calm your tits, man. No one likes to be shouted at. It's not how you get your way. But even more so, don't make suggestions that are redundant; we have all these things you've suggested in the game already, you're just so worked up over your perceived injustices that you've completely forgotten everything you may or may not have ever known about Crime.

Why? Any player who wants help killing someone and doesn't know anyone in game that they can ask can come here to HoB and make a thread asking for veterans to help them. There is no need to make an in-game link to HoB when references to the forums are already abundant. IF there ever comes a time when posting on the forums asking for rangers becomes popular, I will consider a subforum of HoB specifically for such threads, but it seems that most people use in-game contacts or do their justice themselves.

John has already said that he doesn't like 'magic' knowledge in the NPCs. Good criminals don't get caught so such a system would be magic knowledge. And like Pistolshrimp has already pointed out, debasement and other crimes would interfere with your system. Personally, I think towns should be able to practice combat internally against the day they might get raided without some dot on some magical Providence map showing everyone where their peaceful little town is located. Not to mention giving larger raiding groups an excuse to 'ranger' said town and pretend they are doing the world a favor. The king already gives rewards to those who turn in the scalp of a character with Murder skills. That is enough.

See, here's where you've forgotten some important facts. Any player who finds crime scents in or around their base can now track them to wherever they lead and make a map that anyone else on the server can use to attack the offending criminal. And the number of maps they can make is not even limited in any way. Maps for a dozen raiders? Maps for scouting alts? Maps for the original victim to teleport an alt out there and watch the revenge take place? Maps to sell to bystanders and make an event out of it? You can do it all! Scent transference is not at all needed and neither is giving your location out to others.

No, let's leave this one unlocked. It's not going to happen, and it is based on misunderstanding of current mechanics, but I've no problem with talking about it.

You should totally do this anyway.
