Why can it not store ore?

It is the second most important item that you should be able to stock pile.

+1.

Though I asked JC about it back when Storage Bins were added and I think he said he didn't want as we were not allowed to have too many nice things at once (I guess he is a good parent and don't want to spoil us so we won't turn into brats - look at how well it went).

Why would you not just smelt your ore?

For one I already fill up every shed and chest around my smelters with ore for smelting. Then said shed quickly become iron storage. I have to go down 6 levels to get ore so that I can get progress and explore the mine. I wish I could just take a take and mine a ton of ore so I don't have to stop every 40 mins to go mine and refill the smelters. Instead I could just fill them up and go about another task.

I think that having a ore storage would significantly decrease the feel of grind in the ore industry.

I'd say it's about as nice as boards and rubble.

Or you can just get your friends/village mates to sort out the smelting while you are mining.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

You seem to forget that some people play solo or that others also have jobs to do in the village.
