Welcome to the Reading Room!

Books have come to Providence, and with them a wealth of authors seeking to make names for themselves between the sheets, as it were. But how does one prevent the purchase of a subpar work of literature? Word of mouth, for starters! If you find a book you enjoy, share the news of it with a friend. However, short of that, this will serve as a reader's guide to reading the many and varied works sure to pop up on the Providence scene.

The list will be updated as the works on the Top Books list are read. Also, if you have a book too new to be on the list, feel free to get in touch with me by PM and I will gladly review your book, that it may be propagated and distributed to one day reach the top of the leaderboard!

Happy reading!

Note: given the nature of alts, I see the possibility of forging an author's name to write smut and/or cause mischief. Should this occur, the accused personality need only come forward so the public can be notified in the review.

Golem of Prague by "Bartholomäus"
This story isn't actually a story, but rather a two page booklet regarding its subject title. It is informative for those who enjoy small snippets, but really it's not worth the money to buy off the list and seems like someone trying out the bookmaking system. Grade: C-

A Tale of Two Sisters by "The Lady in White"
Entertaining albeit brief. The story is five pages long featuring the tale of (go figure) two sisters as they cope with realities of the New World. Mystery surrounds them and I have the feeling this will be a serialized tale. Heavy in dialogue, it's worth picking up if the author continues the story. Grade: B

Wishy's Basic Guide to Witchcraft by "Wishy"
This two page intimate account detailing witchcraft is purely informative. The author has left out all pretense of creativity, as though waiting purely for the opportunity to teach others about the craft. If it is actually a true account, I fear for Providence's future. For those wishing to learn the secrets of how witches do what it is they do, pick up a copy, but don't expect to be charmed. Grade: B-

From the Mists by "Tylan"
A simple story written about a man of science and the crustaceans under his care. A slow beginning unravels the tale and any interested in a pleasant (if verbose) story of dark happenings and things best left unmentioned, this is for you. As it is my own work, I will not grade it, but encourage you to pick up a copy if you're interested.

An Introduction to Gluttony by "Tynendir Endeni'el"
For being introductory, this has everything the burgeoning pilgrim (and time-honed vet) needs to learn the ins-and-outs of the current gluttony system. 10 pages of detailed information on the system including the author's own usual diet he used to get from 150 to 500! Articulate and fully encompassing. Straight-forward and clear. If you are having difficulty withe gluttony system or are seeking to confirm that your understanding and/or methodology is correct, I suggest picking up this book. Grade: A

The Yellow Rose by "Taite Sotan"
A wonderful story that reads like a fairy-tale, The Yellow Rose could have been plucked straight out of the Brothers Grimm or Aesop's Fables. The author shows a great mastery of the english language and that particular genre, never missing a beat in each step she takes toward pulling the reader into the story. Though on the whole it felt vanilla, I truly appreciated it from start to finish and would strongly recommend it to anyone who would enjoy being lost for a moment in 7 pages of fantasy. Grade: A

The Story of Baby Jesus by "Wishy"
This four page story is a summary of the birth of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The language is fitting for Sunday school but paints a pleasant picture of the moments leading up to and after the birth of the baby Jesus. Perhaps a redemptive piece from the author given his debut work on the dark craft. Critics better spoken than I would, I'm sure, make commentary on the polarity of the pieces being representative of nature of the world we live in. Grade: B

The Tale of the Snake King by "Cheena"
A four page tale about the true nature of predators. Reads like a child's story, but with a powerful lessons behind it that the author masterfully develops. Very reminiscent of the story of the scorpion and the frog and worth picking up. Part of me wishes there was more detail and length, but still a very good debut work. Grade: A-

The books would be much more expensive if one would invent linebreaks!

Gosh darn it. Gosh darn it to h*ck! I had THIS EXACT SAME IDEA, what with writing "true facts" and all, gaining tons of dosh for a book containing two words. Oh well.
