Stolen items

Hello,

as I noticed it's possible to track stolen item, so what happens if someone put it to sell via stalls in boston? can you punish the seller? can you find it after the item was sold?
is there any other way for money laundry?

thief1 steals a item from player1 and puts it in stall
player2 buys item
player1 tracks the item to player2 and the robber and his claim to thief1

track item is just to find your enemies easier

So what happens if the item is say a bar of soap and is sold to the stalls? IE someone robs all the beaver pelts off of drying racks and sells to the seasonal stall. Does the arrow just spin when you are in town?
