Isn't brick wall the new type? We've heard about canon also, but probably for expedition only...

It was said there will be two more wall types, so you should plan your base accordingly.
That doesn't necessarily mean it's in the works or they have any plans of adding them in any near future.
It is definitely not necessary yet.
