Have Carts also operate as stockbins when empty

Postby Absoluum » Tue May 12, 2015 7:20 pm

As the title says, on top of the current function of carts acting as an upgraded sled, also have it work as a portable stockbin. If the stockbin function of the cart is empty, allow it to operate as it already does. If the cart is empty of all movable items, allow it to operate as a stockbin. This would have ramifications in allowing transport of large quantities of drywood from timber piles, brick manufactured at clay deposits, chipped lime from lime deposits, etc etc.

If the cart is operating as a stockbin, ie, items are in it, a graphical update would be cool, as stockbins already do, to show which type of item is currently in it.

In my opinion, this would make large construction operations and off-claim harvesting interesting and much more manageable. My current brick operation looks like an ancient burial crypt with 30+ urns waiting to be filled with bricks and hauled off.

I could also see a sled operating in the same fashion, but only able to hold a fraction of what a cart is capable of.

Thanks for the consideration! Hopefully this isn't too much to ask for ;)

Sounds good, although I think carts acting as stockpiles should have 1/2 - 1/3 the storage capacity of current stockpiles to balance it out. But they should also hold at least 200 of any given item, seeing as a cart full of chests carries as much.

Balance already comes in the construction cost, to some extent. I don't see stockbins requiring blistersteel to construct. Either way though, I see us, as a user base, more as an outlet for ideas, balance issues can be worked out by JC and friends :)

I dont see why a Pilgram isn't smart enough to stack bricks after adding a few boards to keep them in the cart, and then pulling them
