MY point exactly. More firepower > Walled off braziers.

Yes, but as far as I understand each time it shoots theres a 10% chance for it to crit, which hits like a ***** truck. If you're lucky you could get mutliple crits immediately

I recommend reading the stickied thread on what has changed since MM took over development, helps keep you up to date on some changes or at least point you to the right threads explaining said changes. The way i understand it more braziers is now better, not worse. It is just probably diminishingly better, but still better. Empty ones no longer count towards the stats, stuff and things, here's the thread :D

After reading and asking around I basically got the idea that the best way to run things is to have squared off areas nested inside of each other.

As an example; it sounds like if you started off with a squared off area of Brick->Plank->Stone->etc walls and went something like 10 spaces out and did it again you "shouldn't" have splash damage. From there it's looks like there's a debate on gating your defenses or just filling every tile with them, and then there doesn't seem to be an agreement on the Brazier:Torchpost ratio either. It also seems agreed to still be worthwhile to set up a Village Claim whenever you can so someone can't drop one and claim your land even though this would be rather expensive for someone to do.

I personally just ran with nested area's and lined them with braziers/torchposts. I feel like trying to gate the braziers runs a risk of splash damage on all the gates, but I haven't put enough thought into it to figure out how to manage that unless you gate with a higher-tiered wall, which seems really inefficient.

I've got very little experience on the tricked out raiding mechanics so all of this is based on the info from the forums or word of mouth. If it's wrong, hopefully someone bothers to chime in how it's done.

You won't get much in answers other then speculation. People who actually raid towns and test raiding are not going to tell you the best way to defend because its such a *****. Either way you go will be good. Braziers and torch post also are good to mix.
